“Top marks”
No complaints
“A lovely place”
I admire the classic old hotels that invest serious amounts of money in the fabric of the building and upgrade their facilities but still keep their friendly nature. The hotel is right on the main frontage of the beach opposite the bandstand - pay more for a sea view - its worth it! One annoyance - hotel's WI FI should be FREE to guests!
“Delivers above expectation”
The public areas have been updated but the bedrooms are a bit dated. We were put in a seafacing room on 4th floor with small window. A bit claustrophobic and asked to change. New room was great - with large windows and balcony. Staff were all cheerful, helpful and obliging. Breakfasts generous. Room service food much as you would expect (not great but edible). Altogether a good generous mid range hotel and miles better than the competition. We would be pleased to stay again.
“Would Return”
All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpfull. We were rather surprised that we were unable to dine in the resturant as it had been booked for a function. We were directed to the bar where the food was OK and the staff very pleasant, but would have preferred the dining room, especially when the disco commenced and we had to shout to hold a converstion. Room on 3rd floor was very warm although only February, not sure how it would be in the summer. Needs air conditioning, but the sea view was great Breakfast was a triumph it catered for everyone's tasts and appetites, large or small, cooked or continental and again the staff could not have been more helpful.
“John at the Cavendish”
On check-in, it seemed that the receptionist could not find our booking. Then she said "was it just for one night" and seemed surprised that it was for three. We then discovered that as it was St. Valentines weekend, there was a special candlelight dinner on Saturday night. we were told that this dinner was fully booked, but we could get a bar meal. On Saturday evening we had a bar meal but we were dissapointed with the meal. We were asked if our food was ok and when we said that we were not happy with the quality of the food we were told that the kitchen was busy as they had over 90 people for dinner. We thought that this was a poor excuse. We felt that this weekend at the Cavendish was not as good overall as the previous weekend we had in August 2010. To be fair, I suppose that we chose the wrong weekend and will definately give the Cavendish another chance.
“Great location, great service, great hotel”
Although we arrived an hour early we were able to park in the carpark and check in. Hotel was very clean and the Reception staff were extremely helpful. We hadnt paid any extra to upgrade to a seaview but were pleasantly surprised to find one of our windows overlooked the sea. Our room (226) was huge and queen size bed that was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was gorgeous - fully tiled and large power shower. complimentary toilietries spelt amazing. We had some drinks in the bar in the eveing which overlooked the sea front, great location although the service in the bar was quite slow and we would often have to wait for a couple of the drinks to be bought over.....and then have to remind the staff to bring them! Location of ht hotel was perfect - a few steps to the beach and pier and a minute walk to the town centre. Car park for hours which was great value. We will definatley be returning!
“Must go back”
The Cavendish hotel was almost perfect. The staff were warm and friendly. The food was outstanding with a wide choice and excellent presentation and service. The only minor criticism was that our room was hot and stuffy and would have benefitted from air conditioning which possibly could have been expected from a 4 star hotel. Despite this criticism we would definitely return.
“Cavendish Hotel - no better place to stay in Eastbourne”
A beautifully fitted out hotel right on the Eastbourne sea-front behind the bandstand... a casual 5 minute walk to the town centre and (more importantly) a few minutes walk to the ice-cream parlour!! The welcome was warm and efficient, parking took away our pay and display concerns and the cocktail bar was... well, let's say well used!! The room was spacious although the ensuite literally only had room for the sink, shower and toilet that was in it... but decent shower! Would have enjoyed a bath but that was never specified in the booking anyway. The spa facilities were barely used allowing us to use them at our leisure... spa room, monsoon shower, aromatherapy steam room and sauna... what an amazing way to unwind, an absolute treat! Breakfasts were full English buffet style with cerials, bread rolls, toast, fruit... you couldn't really ask for more choice. Friends popped over from another hotel and were incredibly impressed to the point that next trip they would look to book here first. All in all it made our weekend to stay in such a beautiful hotel, enjoy relaxing facilities and being so local to everything we were looking for that weekend. This is a definite recommendation to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in Eastbourne
“Definately will go back”
Well worth a visit
“Fine, except for over hot room.”
Good location, great reception area but our room on the 4th floor was like an oven when we arrived (1st April!) even though it was pretty cold outside. I think pipes from the bathroom were heating it up. However there seemed no way to control the temperature other than leaving the window open for about a day. The receptionist sent up a fan which helped a bit. I think executive rooms have air conditioning but would advise checking before booking if you don't like over hot rooms.
