“Very nice, but very noisy”
The hotel was lovely - except we had a room near the front on a Saturday night - not such a great idea. It was extremely noisy until approx 3 a.m. when the clubs kicked everyone out.. Sunday night was lovely and peaceful. Other than that I would recommend the hotel. Obviously the noise was not their fault, but future guests might want to be aware.
“This will be my first choice when staying in Brighton”
This hotel is both traditional and service oriented. The staff were helpful & friendly and the room very comfortable. The style and presence of the hotel gave us a great sense of nostalgia. Only downside is the limied parking (on a sunny weekend) but with an NCP carpark next door it's just about having a little patience to get a space. Have already recommended this hotel to friends and will stay there again.
“Good value for money, great location on sea front”
Nicely furnished room in a older hotel. Smell of fresh paint in corridor showed that they make an effort to keep the hotel well maintained. All you could want and expect from a quality hotel. Good staff generally although some of them could have been friendlier.
“Excellent service”
Room service was prompt and the rooms were immaculate and homely.
“Excellent value”
Bargain price for a very nice hotel with good facilities. Located right on the main 'prom'. Very nice reception which allowed checking in at 11am.
“3 DOUBLE ROOMS, 50,75,85 YEARS OLD”
GOOD VALUE,CLEAN,WOULD GO AGAIN..
“Nice freindly staff”
Well located hotel, good parking service. Saturday in Brighton is noisy but most other nights are quieter. If you want to be in the thick of it and close to The Lanes then this is a good place to stay. If you want peace and quiet then don't go to Brighton! The deal we got via Expedia was great value.
“Excellent Brighton Hotel Bargain”
I stayed in this hotel with my 8 year old daughter for 3 days recently. The outside of the hotel looks tired with peeling paint, but it is directly on the seafront so maybe this is the reason but a refresh of the outside would not go amiss. We checked in immediately and were given our room details. Our room was ideally situated at the end of the building which meant we didnt get a lot of thoroughfare noise. Our room was large and clean with a very comfortable bed, we did have a lightbulb out in the bathroom (there were four more the bathroom was so large) and a couple of cobwebs but when this was mentioned to hotel staff it was rectified immediately. The breakfast was of an excellent standard with a huge choice of fruit, yoghurt, nuts, pastries, three types of bread and of course the full English option which was well cooked and fresh. The reception staff (one spanish one lady in particular) were wonderful and so helpful. They were all so nice to my little girl complimenting her on her outfits and shoes and nothing was too much trouble. I will be going back to Brighton again and will definately stay here, a wonderful hotel with a great price from Expedia!! Fantastic!!!
“Good Value”
Hotel could not be faulted but the same can't be said of the road outside! We were upgraded to a sea view which meant looking straight out on the beach. However this meant that the A23 roared by the front as did drunken revellers at 3am. Hotel the oldest in Brighton and nicely quirky in layout. Room clean and comfortable ditto bathroom. Breakfast varied and fresh. Staff friendly and helpful. Got a good rate via expedia and free upgrade. Would stay again - but might ask for a room at the back of the hotel!
“Overall - pleased.”
I will return - this hotel is recommended. I last stayed at this hotel around 20 years ago. Actually, 20 years is nothing compared to the 500+ year history of the place. This time I took my family for a 1 night trip. What you get is a quirky hotel with multiple levels and nooks and crannys. The carpet is dated in places. There was an empty pizza box in a corridor that did not move for 20 hours. The cold water pipe made loud noises whenever the tap (faucet) was turned on. A previous guest had placed a wad of paper to stop a single glazed window from rattling in the night (but helpful). BUT - all forgiven as the staff were excellent! From the check in staff to the man with the foldaway bed to the lovely lady at breakfast - they were all very attentive and helpful. I've stayed at plenty of hotels worldwide and the UK hotel experience can be very depressing, but the staff here were great. Reason? This hotel now forms part of a privately owned Spanish hotel chain (half the staff were young, attractive and attentive Spanish people, the UK staff were nice too). This hotel could be great if a little more attention to cleaning detail was given. Give it a try and remember - this is Brighton. The Grand has peeling paint on the front of the building, too (I looked and noticed). Location - great. Public areas: fine. Room cleanliness - medium to good. Ambience - relaxed. Stag/hen nights can occur on weekends. Breakfast was excellent (varied/generous).
