Marina is only asset

Posted 01-May-2014
Pros: Near marina
Cons: Staff should follow the same procedures, was nearly charged for extra breakfast because of poor staff training.
Location: Location was good and close to many shops and restaurants.
Stayed for 4 nights, there were 2 weddings which were very noisy and could not use the bar area. Chairs in the restaurant were always dirty and needed to be wiped. Staff cleaned the tables and left crumbs and rubbish on the chairs. Looked old and tatty.

Large room

The hotel was in a great location and the staff were very friendly and helpful. What was a surprise was the spacious room which included a sofa. This was much larger than expected and together with the cleanliness made for a fabulous night.

Excellent friendly staff - quality service from all the staff -great room with balcony, very clean and tidy-very good restaurant and superb breakfast- would stay again- only downfall is the excessive charge for the internet.

Good Hotel, Good Price, shame about the extras.

Posted 13-Feb-2014 on Hotels.com
Hotel and room where very good, everything you would expect. Unfortunately the extras brought it down. You have to pay to park at this hotel, which was not mentioned before I went to check out, the cost of breakfast there is crazy, I can buy a 3 course meal in my local pub for the same price. WiFi was also a ridiculous price. With the same price range hotel here in the States all of that is FREE and this is coming from a Brit. Other than that the service was very good with clean well laid out rooms.

Generally ok, but spoiled by penny pinching

Whilst I accept that you don't choose Holiday Inn if you are looking to be pampered, the Holiday Inn Mariner in Hull certainly did not do any pampering during my 3 night stay. I paid £150 per night for an Executive Room, which whilst a good size was still quite basic. What left me with a bitter taste in the mouth and a feeling of being exploited was that, notwithstanding taking the top tier of room at full price, I still had to pay for breakfast, on site parking and wifi. On top of the room rate I was tapped up for a further £120 in extras which meant I was paying top dollar for a middle ranking (at best) service. Not having free wifi anywhere in the hotel (not even in the common areas) was very poor and I did not accept the hotel's explanation that it was out of their hands. If Holiday Inn wanted to offer wifi for free (as many hotels are doing) I am sure they could. You are left feeling that Holiday Inn view you as a walking cash cow rather than a valued customer and that giving you a sense of being valued is very very low down their list of priorities.

Cant realy fault this hotel. The staff are friendly, the location is good. The room we had was just a tiny bit "tired" (a few marks on the wall and chipped furniture)but the shower was fantastic.I would recomend and use again.
