East Lothian, Edinburgh Independent Hotels

Prosperous agricultural East Lothian lies due east of the capital. Haddington, the county town, is rich and handsome, and due south the Lammermuir Hills are home to some charming villages. North Berwick, a genteel Victorian-Edwardian resort half an hour by rail from Edinburgh, looks onto Bass Rock, home to over 100,000 seabirds. Gullane (‘Gillin’) houses the Muirfield golf course, while nearby Musselburgh is the region’s busiest racecourse.
