“Ideally located for the Gent Music Festival”

Sadly lots of building/maintenance works going on everywhere. But it didn't stop our enjoyment of the music festival. Will be going back in a couple of years time so hopefully all the city improvements will be done by then and the hotel view will be vastly improved. Have stayed at this hotel several times now. I fully recommend that you book with B&B included before you go, as it is better value. The food choice in the morning is extensive and breakfast starts at 7 until 10.30am. Not so geared up in the evening though, but there are plenty of restaurants in the area to eat out in the evening. Overall a good choice of hotel, comfortable and central to everything going on in the city. Also brilliant double glazing blocks out the sound of the late hours music, so you do get some sleep regardless of all those late night revellers!!!!

When to go
Cira JUly for the gent music festival
Getting there
Fly to brussels then train to gent centrum and a tram ride just a few stops to the hotel.
Shopping
loads of shops and don't forget the chocolate shops!
Dining
Plenty of restuarants for all tastes
Nightlife
Loads during the festival

“Great hotel in middle of big dig.”

The Novotel is in a great downtown location with access to bus and tram service extremely closeby. The only downside is that the hotel is next to a huge building site. We traveled over the weekend so cannot report how noisy the site may be. The room was large for three persons and was very nicely furnished with marble counters and separate toilet and bath areas. The buffet breakfast had a nice variety of foods taking in American, French and German style breakfasts. A great stay for the cost.

“THE place to stay in Ghent with kids”

The staff were extremely friendly and a big fuss was made over the kids. Breakfeast buffet was good.

“Novotell”

The hotel was great. We arrived during Gent Fest - we did not know about this even after looking up Gent on the net but when you google Gent Fest you will find a 10 day of non stop party. This is great fun but goes on till 3:30 every morning so if you want to sleep early dont go during Gent fest - if you want fun and festivals then you know what to do.

Area recommendations
The historic centre has something to see every day of the week but during the festival you can enjoy anywhere

“Great Location for a Great City”

Having not known what to expect upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. Check in was easy and brief. I would have perhaps appreciated if they could have told me to use the room card for the lift! Staff were friendly - even at just after midnight. The room was large, certainly large enough for just two people, with all the amenities you would expect - kettle, tea/coffee, shower, TV and mini-bar. The bed was big but quite uncomfortable. It didn't ruin the stay, not in the least, but if you like soft and springy matresses, you won't be amused. The bathroom was clean, and plenty big enough and fortunately included a hairdryer after mine gave up the ghost. A great feature of the room was the air-conditioning. If it is as hot for you as it was us out there, you will be kissing that sweet machine. The hotel bar was nice, spacious and friendly, if not a little pricey. Go down the street and into the square to find a bar if you're feeling fresh - it's always busy and relaxed and my god is the beer fantastic. We couldn't use the resteraunt ourselves as my girlfriend is a vegan, and they didn't have anything suitable. But if you are vegetarian, you won't struggle, they have plenty...it just always had blasted cheese on it! The internet access is free too! This hotel comes highly recommended for those looking for no-fuss, and a great location. (One tip - in restaurants, go in and sit down - they don't greet at the door like here. It caused endless confusion!)

Area recommendations
The historic quarter is fantastic - just watch for cyclists. They own that city!

“Redelijk hotel”

Must see
Verder veel wandelen in o.a. het Patershol.
Dining

“Centraal gelegen, gastvrij hotel”

Ghent, Belgium: The heart and soul of Ghent is the picture-perfect, car-free Old Town. Tour boats ply the Lys River, with the medieval guild houses of Graslei and Korenlei streets casting their reflections upon the placid waters. St. Bavo's Cathedral houses the magnificent Lamb of God altarpiece, painted by the van Eyck brothers in the 1400s. The Gravensteen Castle, built in the 1100s, is another must-see.
