“Faded Gothic Splendour”
The description probably is slightly fanciful, since the current building was rebuilt following the French invasion in the mid 19th century. Hence expect long echoing corrodors, high ceilings, noisy uncarpeted wooden staircases and a fairly gloomy interior. That said, I really enjoyed my stay, the room was large, quiet and comfortably furnished, albeit everything had been well used. Staff were knowledgeable, courteous and anxious to assist, whilst the breakfast buffet was of a good standard. My stay was mid week, so many of the function rooms were in use, especially the church which gave a pleasant liveliness to it all. Location is good, within an easy five minute walk of the town centre, whilst by car it is on the inner Ghent ring. There is adequate parking on site. Yes I shall be returning.
