“Reasonable hotel, but expected better given its 4* rating”

The hotel is very well located for a tourist visiting Ghent and the room itself was a decent size. However as the room overlooked the hotel's courtyard and the partitions/walls were thin, the room tended to be a little noisy.

“Had expected more!”

Center city location in beautiful down town Gent. Parking near by; Reception desk not terribly helpful; Room spartan; Maximum 3 rating in my opinion. Down town Gent on the other hand has top rating!

“not a plastic hotel”

A hotel of some charm as some rooms are not of the normal plastic variety you find in the big chains. However, rooms at the front can be noisy due to traffic and workmen in the street. Breakfast is expensive but there is a shop accross the road selling croissants & coffee

“Affordable but not great”

Great location and a value price, but our room was quite dusty and not particularly comfortable (had a cinderblock, dorm-room feeling). Bedside lamp didn't work. Our room was off the open courtyard which I suppose would be nice on a lovely summer day, but not great on a cold, rainy day. It was adequate for our one-night stay, but we probably would have requested a room change if we were planning on a longer stay. The staff was helpful and friendly.

“Needs renovation - dertainly not a 4* hotel”

Partition walls and sealing are thin and poorly insulated which means that the hotel is very noisy (neighbours’ voices, squeaky doors/floor boards). As well as people in the corridor, we could hear every time the person above happened to walk which made sleeping impossible. Our room was tiny, just enough space for a double bed and a shower. There were many little things wrong with the room, which you wouldn’t expect when you pay a premium price for a 4* hotel (shower door was broken and wouldn’t close, there was a gap between the base of the shower and the floor, the sink wasn’t straight, electrical sockets not properly fixed on wall, main door needed a good kick to open, stained carpets etc). Because it was on the 4th floor, it got hot (wasn’t very hot outside). Air con was so noisy that we couldn’t use it, and opening the window meant breathing in the smell from the gutter (right by the window, full of cigarettes buds) and also waking up with the first rays of sunshine (no curtains) and noises (delivery at Spar shop facing the hotel start from 4am every day). Overall the hotel is a little dated. It’s hard to believe that the old lift still works. Some lights in the corridor weren’t working. Staff was very poor. I stayed there twice and every other time I needed to speak to someone (check in/out) the reception desk was empty. No matter how many time I rang the bell. I once asked the reception desk if they could recommend a local pizzeria, and they were unable to do so.

“Avoid in summer, otherwise: great location and design, small rooms”

This is a "design" hotel with cool design in the lobby, and a minimalist vibe in the very small rooms which is partially cool but partially verges on the "cement". It was about 32F (90C) that day and there was no air conditioning in the room nor any fan available. Even with both french doors completely open, there was little air circulation. It was only possible to sleep a little in fits and starts due to the coffin-like air combined with the screams and shouts of the people on the street (it was a Saturday night so many people were out till 3 AM drinking and the windows give straight out onto the narrow street). The hotel management needs to give some thought to hot summer nights. Other than that, nice design (although very small rooms), exceptionally convenient location by the more upscale shops, good breakfast. When in Europe in Summer, make sure your hotel has airco. A lot of Europeans would say I sound like a spoiled American, but they need to realize the entire rest of the first world (Americas, Asia) has airco for temps of 90F. And these days, it gets hot in Summer in Europe quite a lot. K?
