We arrived around 4 pm, not sure where to go.. apparently they sent the email after we left. Luckily we found someone. She informed us that the water had some issues, the sediment in the tank was causing the water to turn brown. She asked if we still wanted to stay as the water was essentially unusable. They offered a 10% discount, and apparently no one else stayed that night. So we decided to stay. It was very nice, we got a gallon of water, used whatever bottled water we could find and made the best of it. It was nice. The bed was comfy and our overall experience was good. We are making plans to return.. I do hope they fix the water issue.. that made it a little difficult but workable. We will return it was so much better than a hotel.
An oasis in a hot desert. It was just what we wanted. Being June, there were few people there. Many of the businesses were closed for the summer, or closed at noon. We came prepared and packed a picnic lunch for both days. We loved the area and enjoyed searching out all the wonderful sculptures scattered aver several miles just outside of the downtown area.

Stanlunds is situated in the heart of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. It was built in the 50s and was remodeled in 2005 …More
The canyon roads to get there are a bit tough.
After three days, they got to be more tolerable.
Some of the staff was great; others, not so much.
Seemed like they were trying, but it was very inconsistent.
There was a dead cockroach outside our door one day.
Some days the maid would refill the coffee packets; other days she wouldn't.
Some days we had four sets of towels in the bathroom; other days there were two or three.
As far as toiletries, there was shampoo but no conditioner.
We would borrow tennis racquets and balls from the front desk. Sometimes we were given three balls; other times we got a grocery bag full. (Thanks, Teri!)
We ordered from the Oaks Grill pretty much every day. Two days, the salad was huge and wonderful. The third time I ordered, the salad was 1/3 the size of the previous days.
Sometimes "over medium" eggs were perfect. The last morning, it was runny and undercooked.
Hash browns were overcooked the first day, perfect the next.
The list goes on and on. I plan to write a more detailed review on yelp.
We stayed for five nights; so I got a good feel for the place.
Oh yeah, there is no laundry facility. You have to drive five miles into Ramona and find the coin laundry.
I'd give it 3.5 stars.
We enjoyed our stay in this lodge (home converted into a lodge). The character of the lodge, view, and seeing four deer running through the property after a fresh snow helped the ambiance. Our kids enjoyed the 2-bedroom suite with the loft and will probably talk about that room for a while. Caretaker Jim was a really nice man; the only staff you'll see during your stay.
My family and I stayed for six nights and our stay was very comfortable. Resort offered family activities, clean rooms, laundry area, sparkling pools, free WIFI and cable TV. We weren't able to engage in many of the resort activities because of the tight schedule we had planned, but for future vacations we plan to stay and spend a couple days doing resort activities.
The only complaint I have is that one of the staff members allowed neighborhood teenage friends into the pool during night hours. Teenagers will be teenagers but they were being extremely obnoxious using foul language and as well as climbing and jumping off the pool awning.
The desert dominates East County. Here, wildflowers bloom in the spring at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This isolated stretch of land is California’s largest state park. Nearby, soothing mineral waters welcome visitors at a pair of hot springs, one in Jacumba and one in Agua Caliente. Nestled in the Cuyamaca Mountains, the historic town of Julian offers a glimpse of Gold Rush California.
