“Well worth a visit.”

We asked for a quiet room, and were given one. It had a good view of the river and the room itself was large, very comfortable and clean. All the staff that we spoke to in the hotel were very welcoming and helpful and for all these reasons I would definitely recommend the hotel and would go back. Its location in Durham is perfect. Two small things which I think the hotel should address is that when we came back to our room after 3.30 one afternoon, having left the room before 10am, it still had not been cleaned. That did seem odd. We went out again for a short while and it was cleaned by the time we returned, so a minor complaint. Also, trays of other guests who had had room service were left in the corridor all day. For a hotel which in all other ways gave excellent service, these two - admittedly minor - details were out of character.

Area recommendations

The city centre of Durham and the Cathedral are well worth exploring. They are beautiful.

Getting there

Go by train if you can! You can walk from the station, but, although it's downhill all the way it would be difficult if you had bulky luggage.

Getting around

You can walk everywhere in Durham. It's one of the pleasures of being there.

Shopping

The food market in the city market place is not to be missed.

Dining

The Hide Bistro on the way up to the Cathedral and Finbarr's Restaurant up near the hospital are very good and certainly deserve a visit. The food, the staff and the service at Finbarr's are excellent.

“Almost but not perfect”

Overall an excellent hotel with the exception of a very very poor quality breakfast. Luke warm / cold hot buffet with the most disgusting coffee ever experienced in nay standard of hotel. This was not at the end of service but 90 mins before the end of breakfast. I would recommend planning breakfast elsewhere.

“Excellent location.”

Provided you're ok with international hotel chains then this place is very good. The rooms and public areas are attractive and whilst understated have that you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. The riverside location gives great views; it is pleasingly quiet but still just a short walk to the town centre. As would be expected the staff seem well trained and helpful with a nice touch of friendliness. The Italian themed restaurant has a fairly "compact" menu but the food is of a good standard for the price. Breakfast is unremarkable. An enjoyable stay and a good choice for leisure or a business trip.

Great hotel in Durham. Short walk to restaurants and shops. Great pool/spa. Clean, Clean, Clean. No brochures in the lobby and skip the breakfast but otherwise a great value.

“great hotel, good location”

We really enjoyed our stay in the Radisson Blu. Th hotel is modern, nicely furnished (still looks new). Staff were very friendly. It was only short walk across the river into the town via plenty of bars and rstaurants. We were keen to try local restarants so didn't try the hotel restaurant. Would definitelt stay again and would recommend it. Good secure parking too.

“Has all you need”

This hotel is very comfortable, located just across the river from the city centre, easy to find from the train station with a small bit of homework and possessing all facilities one could reasonably require including a swimming pool, gymnasium and free broadband internet. It is great value for the price and we would certainly stay again.

“keep away from room 121”

very impressed with the radisson blu hotel in durham. Were originally checked into room 121 but found it very noisy. A quick phone call and we were moved to another room, reception told us the noise came from the laundry so avoid room 121 for a peaceful stay. Everything else about the hotel was great, very convrnient for walking into durham centre, a matter of minutes. We would recommend this hotel to others.

city centre, very compact everything is in walking distance, from the castle and the cathedral to loads of shops including high street names and independent stores, plenty of pubs and cafes. Lots to see and do.

“Smart hotel”

Smart hotel in a great location only a short walk from the city centre. We were visiting the university with our two teenage daughters and found our rooms extremely comfortable. We didn't eat in the hotel but enjoyed the free access to the pool, sauna and steam room

Area recommendations

The city is a pleasure to walk round with interesting shops and plenty of cafes. The Cathedral is a must and we enjoyed dinner at the modern British restaurant Oldefields.
