Excellent guest house

Posted 22-Sep-2014
Pros: Friendliness, helpfulness, cleanliness
Location: Durham City approx 3 miles away
My daughter & I stayed for one night to visit the University on Open Day. This is a guest house & not a hotel and the facilities/services are in line with this. Checking in after 9pm was not a problem. Maureen kindly arranged a taxi for us from the station & we were greeted with a warm welcome & much appreciated fresh pot of tea. The bedroom and shared bathroom were comfortable & immaculate and English breakfast was served promptly prompt at the time requested. Transport into the City is available on public transport, although we took a taxi for £7.50. Would definitely recommend this guest house & would not hesitate to stay here again.

A lovely B&B

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: I guess en suites, but it's a B&B so we knew it would be a shared bathroom - there was no problem with this it was always clean.
Location: A short drive from Durham
A great B&B, a short car drive from Durham. The rooms were great and very well appointed and clean. The breakfast was fab! The couple running it were lovely and very helpful. We couldn't have had a better stay.

Guest room in House

Posted 18-Jul-2014
Pros: they provided lovely dressing gowns to wear to the bathroom, and the wi fi was perfect
Cons: coffee facilities poor no desk to work at no chairs or tv in lounge
Location: You need a car if you are staying here
Travellers need to be aware that this is a house with three bedrooms and one bathroom to share. The hosts are wonderful. The rooms large and absolutely pristine, breakfast was home cooked. Enjoyable but really need to know its like staying with relatives who dont bother you at all. but we adapted and enjoyed our stay

Silent Beauty

Posted 08-Jul-2014
My daughter and I were in Durham attending a university open day. We drove up from London and needed a quite place to stay the night. High View Guest House was perfect. Close, and clean with a lovely breakfast. Our room was beautiful and equipped with every thing one could need. If my daughter ends up going to Durham university I will be staying here often.

A great place to stay in Durham

Posted 17-Jun-2014 on Hotels.com
I stayed in this B&B with my son over the weekend, and we really had a lovely time here. The rooms are newly renovated and spotlessly clean, the house is very well looked after, and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, and were very patient with a lively six-year old boy around the house! A perfect, cosy and welcoming place to stay while in Durham, within easy reach of the city centre if you have a car (otherwise there are good bus links), and very honestly priced. The breakfast was delicious and I really appreciated the care and friendly service, thanks Maureen and Jeff!

An Outstanding Bed and Breakfast

Posted 27-May-2014
Pros: Cleanliness and friendliness.
Cons: Nothing really
Location: We visited Beamish, the Riverside Cricket ground and Durham itself all of which were very close and easily found.
The proprietors, Maureen and Geoff could not be more welcoming and friendly. The room was spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and we were very pleased at sensible portion sizes, too often places seem to think that a vast breakfast equals good, here we had a very reasonable amount beautifully cooked. Obviously en suite facilities would be an advantage but in a domestic home this often just isn't possible. The internet was a bit dodgy but far more likely the service provider than our hosts caused this minor hassle! We would return and are sure we would be welcomed as old friends even though we have only visited once.

Luxurious stay

Posted 23-Apr-2014
Pros: quality, cleanness, owners' friendliness
The guest house is superb: everything is brand new, modern, immaculate and of a very high standard. The landlady was very friendly, kind and made us feel like at home. Breakfast offered plenty of options and was served in a lovely dining room.

Oasis

Posted 30-Mar-2014
I'm new to Durham, so I didn't really have a clue where to stay: after some research, I decided to choose High View Guest House. Very recently refurbished, the whole Guest House is what can only be described as luxurious. A homely welcome and service, it's an oasis from the hotels for the itinerant worker, like me.
