“Good hotel, good facilities, fantastic view”
Just come back from a weeks holiday at this hotel and was very happy with our choice. The hotel is rated as 4 star but go dont expecting the 4 star rating in Croatia to be what you would get from a modern european city hotel, the hotel was built sometime in the 70's (mostly of concrete) and whilst we found the decor to be clean and fresh (obviously recenetly had a lick of paint) it was somewhat dated (pink marble effect tiles in the bathroom and some of the carpet patterns are to be seen to be believed!) We booked a "romantic" room which was spacious, had a huge bed and a private terrace overlooking a small roof garden, then to the sea and the islands beyond (never seen such a stunning sunset) The hotel has a pebble beach directly below it (take scuba shoes, the pebbles kill your feet), sun loungers are free but you pay for an umbrella. The main draw back for some, though to be honest it didnt bother us, is the distance from the old town, its a good 15mins bus journey from the hotel to the pile gate, but to be honest after spending a day fighting our way through the millions of cruise passengers that arrive daily we didnt bother going back into the ol town except for dinner at night and were glad to be out of it to be honest. The bus cost £2.00 return and goes every 10 mins from right outside the hotel to the pile gate and runs till @2am so there was never ever any need to get a taxi.
“One of Dubrovnik's finest hotels.”
Although we arrived late on the 14th September, we were booked in without fuss. All the hotel rooms face the sea, and all can see the beautiful sunsets. The meals are buffet type, and have a great selection with plenty of dishes to suit British tastes. The waiters/waitresses constantly keep you topped up with coffee at breakfast, though you have to get your own tea. Our room was kept clean and tidy during our stay, and was quite comfortable. There is now wi-fi in all rooms. The private beach is quite small and pebbled, though the water is clear and has been blue-flagged. The location of the hotel means it is really quiet at night. There is a very regular number 6 bus to the old part of the city and the number 5 bus runs hourly which takes you to the cable car ride. All in all, a lovely hotel which we would recommend.
“First time in Dubrovnik but will return”
We were very happy with all aspects of our stay in the President in Aug/Sep 2011. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and welcoming. The "romantic" room had a large balcony with stunning Adriatic views. The food was very good in the hotel although we dined most nights in Dubrovnik Old Town which we reached by the shuttle bus outside the hotel (we never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus) Free wifi in the room was appreciated. We would highly recommend the President
“The good and the bad”
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the President. The location and room outlook were fantastic. The food was not, very basic. Maybe we were expecting too much, however the breakfast left a lot to be desired. We found mostly that the female staff were a lot more freindly and efficient than the male staff. In fact the male staff at the poll bar were a little rude and very inefficient, with very slow service. We found the beach a little difficult to manage in getting in and out of the water as most of the beaches have only pebbles which hurt the feet when walking on them. The trick is to buy a pair of aquatic slippers. We also strolled over to the other Valamar hotel " Club " not far away and used their freshwater pool. Not sure if you are suppose to do this but it work for us. Overall we would stay there again.
“Awsome Views”
My wife and I spent 3 weeks in Europe and this was our favorite hotel. Some of the best views from our trip were right from our balcony. The rooms and bathrooms were large and clean and the hotel had its own beach. Old Town was a short bus ride away. Walking the walls surrounding the Old Town area was one of the highlights of our trip.
“already want to book for next year!!!!”
I have never has a hotel with such a beautiful terrace! And the view of the sunset was the best I've ever seen! The staff were all so helpful and friendly and the food was good too! The only slight problem was sharing our room with a few ants but thi seems to be a problem all over the area!!
“See Above.”
See above.
“Great hotel, great holiday”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Valamar Dubrovnik President. Our 'standard' rooms were very comfortable and spacious, and the facilities were excellent, especially the pool (very quiet and much larger than it looked on the website photo) and beach (small and pebbly but right on the doorstep, and great for snorkelling even close to the shore). The breakfast buffet was very good both in quality and choice, and the view from the outdoor tables across to the islands is stunning. The bus trip into the beautiful old city is easy - the hotel sells tickets at reception, and the bus leaves from right outside the hotel, every 10 minutes. As the hotel is at the end of the bus route, there is almost always a bus waiting. There are some useful attractions locally - Copecabana Beach, 10 minutes walk away, has bars, restaurant, and watersports including kayaks and jet skis for hire. We ate mostly in the old town in the evenings, but there are a few bars and restaurants in the small shopping centre about 5 minutes from the hotel (also some souvenir and food shops). The hotel arranges excursions - we went on an island-hopping boat trip that picked us up from the hotel beach (although we got a discounted price by booking it at the company's office in the shopping centre, rather than through the hotel), and a day trip to Mostar which was fascinating. Overall, we thoroughly recommend the hotel and the area for a great combination of culture, relaxation and activities.
“A great base to explore Dubrovnik”
I'm 27 years old and went with my girlfriend - we like pretty active holidays and get bored easily. The President Hotel covers pretty much all of the bases - big rooms, all with a sea view and balcony, friendly staff that speak good English, lots of activities that are easy to book via the Hospitality Desk and a decent Watersports centre (water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing etc) within the hotel. The hotel's beach is pretty tiny and busy - so we didn't bother with that, but overall a very good hotel. The breakfast is excellent (massive buffet) but the rest of the food is pretty average and expensive (but that's pretty typical for hotels in this area). Good indoor swimming pool and spa and the hotel's big enough to never feel that busy. We went for a romantic room with a DVD player (recommended) - although best to bring your own DVDs as the free ones are all "romantic".
“Croatian bliss”
I cannot fault this hotel, we had a fabulous stay this hotel delivers what it says on the tin the room was a dream, huge size, split level, and it feels like you are walking into the sea. Great views, fabulous atmosphere worth the money the small pebble beach is visited by everybody, as are all beaches in Croatia You need shoes to enjoy it to the full. we used hotel's pool side on 5th floor for a quieter sunbathing and swimming. great views and breeze from there For some reason there is no service by the pool side; so if you get thirsty just walk up to the lobby bar and order a drink My only wish would be that the hotel would create a children free area perhaps certain hours by the indoor pool / SPA area, to give stressed people like me a quieter area away from happy and excited kiddies but this is very personal, and who told me to travel in August anyway? we wanted a few days in a beach side resort hotel before our cruise around Dalmatia, and the President fulfilled all of this other than that, if you are looking for a perfect resort hotel, with great views and outlets, I can only recommend it Superb breakfast buffet, all you could wish for. this hotel will be top of my list should we consider Dubrovnik again
