“Dubrovnik's best kept secret”

We stayed at this studio for four nights at the end of October. We had a fab time in Dubrovnik. The hotel's Pile Gate location is excellent with easy access to the seaside, a beautiful fort, and the charming Old Town. The apartment is well facilitated (DVD player not working though!), clean and comfortable. Host Viktor welcomed us with lots of useful information on arrival (outside reception opening hours) which we appreciated much. Bus from the airport to the city centre (Pile Gate) costs only Kn35, 30 mins approx. Check with the tourist office for timetable for your return trip to the airport in advance. The apartment is a minute away from the bus stop. Highly recommended.

Area recommendations
Dubrovnik is a perfect holiday location - stunning natural scenary, quality beaches, fantastic seafood, impressive architecture, sunny weather.... Must try the cruises at least once when you are there, the islands are absolute delights. Recommend to get the Dubrovnik Card (available 1 or 3 days) which works out economically well. Be aware that around the hotel and the city centre, there are only minimarkets which have limited choice of meat and veg if you stay in a self catering apartment. That said, eating out is easy if you stay at the Miro Studio as you get spolit with choice of quality seafood / Italian restaurants all around. Take the City Wall Walk early in the morning to avoid cruiseship crowds. The Ethnographic Museum in the Old Town was also a nice surprise.

“Very close to Pile Gate”

Parking anywhere near the Old City is a challenge. These apartments are just a stone's throw from the Pile Gate, which is a plus. However, we had to park in the Public Parking Garage (and pay about $15 per day to park) and lug our suitcase down about 1,000 steps and down a named alley and more steps to get to the Miro Apartments. There are no elevators, so we then had to lug our suitcase up to the third floor (counting the entry level as the first floor). Once there, the room was quite good. Apartments 4 and 6 have a view of a fort and the sea. It is an apartment and therefore does not serve breakfast, but a little restaurant two minutes away right on a cove between the old city and a fort filled that bill just fine. The restaurant was quite scenic. Location was a real plus, as was the condition of the apartment (with a Pierre Cardin blanket on the bed). It is just hard to get to, as it appears to be the case for any place near the old city. Note the reception area is not staffed 24 hours per day. In the evening reception is only open from 6:00 to 8:00.

Area recommendations
This location is about as good as it gets. It is located between the Hilton Imperial hotel and the Pile Gate.

“Dubrovnik Gem”

Viktor and the team at apartment miro were very helpful. The location is excellent and is very quiet at night. The room was clean, modern and had all the amenities promised. Though we were on the fourth floor were had no ocean view as the building in front obscures the view. Overall it is a great place to stay in Dubrovnik

Area recommendations
Just outside the Old Town (Pile Gate) is a great place to stay. Its cheaper than inside, and the buildings are slightly larger and newer. It is also cooler in the summer when the old town gets a bit smelly. The Pile gate was a perfect area for our holiday.

“Would definitely recommend so you can avoid overpriced hotels in Dubrovnik”

Miro Studio Apartments are literally one minute walk away from the entrance of the Pile gate of Dubrovnik. The apartments are also just nearby the sea side, there is only one building in between the sea and the Miro. The area and the city overall is very safe. Viktor and Isabella managing the apartments are extremely nice, friendly, and helpful to make your stay pleasent. They will also give you hints as to how to better enjoy Dubrovnik. Regarding the apartments: On a very quiet small street. The pics posted are completely correct. The apt offers a very comfortable queen bed, nice clean bathroom and toilets, satellite TV + internet, etc.

Area recommendations
We think that MIro is one of the best solutions in Dubrovnik that optimizes affordability and access to the city, without comprimising comfort and safety. We think that, although Lapad area offers lodging, Lapad area is not conveniently located, and remains far from the fun of Dubrovnik. Many busses run between Lapad and Dubrovnik until late hours, but the comfort of having access to your room whenever you want is really good, as was our case with Miro Apts. Travellers looking for much lower lodging prices may explore nearby towns for lodging, such as Cavtah, which is a 25 min bus ride from Dubrovnik (about $2 one way). We think that a full day visit in Dubrovnik (if not 2) is more than enough to see what is in Dubrovnik. The rest is more to explore the area, such as Lokrum, Mijet, Cavtah, more up north, and nearby countries for instance.
Getting around
Going to Mijet may look "tricky" !! Several guides we checked did not clearly explain how to get there. Here's what we found: In July and Aug, there is a catamaran boat going to Mijet islands, "but", the boat departs from the main seaport called GRUZ. You need a bus ride to go to GRUZ (the busses leave from Pile gate, and takes 10 min to get to GRUZ, ask for bus numbers). Once you get of in Gruz, find the ticket office (white cubical across the street) where they sell tix to Mijet. The office opens at 8 AM and the boat departs at 9 AM something. Make sure you get there at least 30 min before the ticket office opens and join the lines. Since the number of tix is limited, not everyone gets to buy their ticket for the day. There is only one round trip to Mijet per day. In Mijet, you MUST rent a bicycle, unless you love walking. You may end up walking a total of 5 miles that day. Pack food and water (you can also buy them on the island from a small grocery store), as there are no shops anywhere in Mijet national parks, except at the main stops.

“Very Good value and Excellent location”

We took the transfer bus from the Airport good idea as Taxi 240 Kuna (£35) and bus 35 Kuna (£4), arrived outside Pile Gate and was met by Viktor who I think was the owner ! Only 50 yards to Appartment ! Down some steps but away from busy entrance through gate to Old City. The Appartment overlooked a Bay where they do Kayaking ! The Appartment was excellent seperate Loo and sound proofed ! Large Shower and cooking facilities if you want, bed was a lift and disappear maybe could have done with a better bed but it was fine ! The room had sliding doors a bit Chinese but very good idea to make the Room more spacious if you wanted to ! But perfectly adequate, Viktor spoke very good English and I think his wife stood in him when not around, check in no problem even if out of the hours as stated on Booking Form, it was a great place to stay to explore old Town, we walked the wall the first night we were there, said it takes about 1 hour more like 3 if you want to do the job properly ! Beautiful Town was there with my Parents in 66 ! It was not that hot, very comfortable to walk but 3 days is plenty, tried to take the transfer bus back to the Airport but its the 2nd Stop and the 2 buses we waited for were full so walked back down the hill to the Taxi rank ! The stop is by the Cable Station ! Could have saved alot of hard work wheeling the bags ! Need to watch that if on a tight timetable ! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone, alot cheaper than the Hotels in Dubrovnik !

The Wall ! Excellent view of Old City, and I would Rent to the Audio Guide it gives alot of info !

“Superb apartment in the best location.”

Excellent in every way, perfect position for all sights and amenities. Good restauarants just steps away. Spotless and well thought out apartment with good friendly service. Walk the city walls early morning or evening to avoid the cruise ship crowds. Visit the Buza bar in the city walls for that relaxing pre dinner drink with a view to die for. No frills but certainly a must do. Visit the restaurant on the left of the harbour as you face the sea for fantastic seafood at great prices. Basic, but the best, always a queue but worth the wait, we enjoyed it more then the exclusive and expensive Nautika Restaurant. Take a boat trip and good book to Lokrum Island for some cool shade and quiet in the heat of the day. Stunning Dubrovnik, still relatively unspoilt, just wish we had visited at a cooler time, 32-36 degrees most days in the middle of July. Would definitely recommend both the apartment and Dubrovnik but best times I think are May and September.

Area recommendations
Would recommend the posotion of the Miro apartments just outside the Pile gate for the best location.
When to go
May or September, when it is not too hot and the crowds are less.
Getting around
Local buses are cheap and relatively frequent, 10Kuna fare to most places but exact money required or get a prepaid ticket

“A real find!!”

A well situated studio style apartment located just outside the Pile Gate literally a couple of minutes to the centre of all the action in the old town but in a quiet area away from the “madding” crowds. MirO is a 4 storied building that has been renovated with modern amenities that include free Wi-Fi access, small flat screen TV, small kitchen area, lounge chairs and a small table. The design makes great use of the space available to give a roomy comfortable feel and the apartment is very clean and well maintained. Initially, it can be tricky to find but Isabelle will send a map - so send them you email address when booking! We stayed at MirO for 5 nights in early May 2010. Our apartment was on the 3rd floor and had a great view overlooking the Lovrijenac fortress and the sea. There is no lift - so if that is an issue it would be best to ask for a ground floor apartment. The owners Viktor and Isabelle are very friendly and helpful and were willing to assist us in any way they could to make our stay in Dubrovnik enjoyable. Viktor recommended some great local restaurants - that were very reasonably priced and authentic “Dubrovnik cuisine”. In particular, his recommendation of the seafood restaurant overlooking the old port on the southern side of the city was fantastic great food and great value for money.!! Their house wine was excellent as well!! When we go back to Dubrovnik we will definitely stay there again.

Area recommendations
Miro was in the ideal locatation just outside the Pile gate - close to the action - but away from the crowds!
When to go
We went in the shoulder season - in May. This avioded the crowds and the cruise ships! The weather was great - in the low 20s making it comfortable to walk around the walls and the narrow streets. In peak season up to 8 cruise ships can swell the number of people in Dubrovnic to the point where the police have to control entry and exit from the old town - not a good time to visit!

“Amazing Location near the Old Town!”

This was our first trip to Dubrovnik and we had a really good stay at Miro Apartments. The location is brilliant - just 2 mins walk and you are in the old town, but it is set back off the main road far enough to be quiet - we went to sleep with the sound of the sea when we arrived. It was lovely and clean, there is the right balance of information and help available, but we didn't find it too intrusive. The best thing was we were lucky to have the apartment with the sea view and watched more than one interesting episode in the little harbour down below! We had a wonderful and relaxing holiday and would recommend this apartment to others for a good price and the flexibility of being able to self-cater makes a good change.

Area recommendations
Dubrovnik Old Town and the newer port area. We would also recommend a trip to Cavtat or the botanical gardens - it gets you away from the hectic tourist areas and takes you a bit further around the beautiful Dalmation coastline.

“Excellent location”

Miro proved to be an excellent spot from which to see Dubrovnik. Situated just outside the Old Town is provided a good base for sightseeing, but had the advantage of being slightly away from the crowds. The studio apartment was small but modern and was in very good condition. Staff, in particular Vikkor, were very helpful and provided good suggestions for things to do.

Traveller's tip
Take a few days to look round the old town and then do a few boat cruises to local islands. Best beach by far was on Lopud. Go to Buza bar to watch the sunset. Don't forget your mosquito repellent!

“Great Location, Viktor was so helpful.”

I love the convenience of this place. It is on a quiet alley but literally minutes away from the center of all the activities. The hotel is modern, nicely furnished and have free internet which I made very good use of. Viktor is extremely helpful in giving us advice on where to eat and where to go. The only thing negative I may have to say is that drainage in the shower is not working well while we were there and it would accumulate and we were afraid to turn the water to full pressure for fear that it may flood our bathroom. Other than that, I recommend this place to all that wants to visit Dubrovnik.
