“If you don't go here your MAD!!!!!”

My new hubby and I went here as our honeymoon getaway. At first I had my doubts about Croatia but as soon as i got there that completely changed. The Hotel Lapad is BEAUTIFUL!!. The staff are lovely and Room and Breakfast was fantastic. The surronding area is great because you are looking out on to a habour and the Mountains. There is lots of stuff to do. Even it is hopping on the bus from outside the hotel and going into the old city or speak to the hotel staff and booking an excursion. There is lots. The local area were the hotel is based "Lapad" is a lovely little town and there are some great cafes and restaurants. If you like to walk (like we do) there are loads of walking trails around dubrovnik and if dont want to get the bus into the "Old City" of Dubrovnik it takes about 15-20 mins to walk. (for the "old city walk" you must have your camera witgh you) This is great place and a fabulous hotel. We went in the middle of October and the weather was great and luckly because the tourist season was winding down it wasnt to crowded in the Old city. This is a place you have go and it definately has to go on the "places you have to visit before you die" list. There is sooooo much I could tell you about this wonderful place but you have to find out for your self!!!

“In the Lapad of Luxury!”

Within easy reach of the Long distance bus station, a short stroll along the harbour to the bus into town, a few steps from the bus stop on the way back (one way system) the Hotel Lapad is a beautiful, clean and modern (interior) hotel. The pool looked very inviting, but too cold in October! Our double room was on the 3rd floor of the huge new annexe, but as built into a hill we had a lovely terrace that overlooked a tiny garden and oblique views down to the Gruz harbour. It was very modern and trendy and lots of fun was had working out what all the buttons did! Only issue we had was the air con. We couldn't work it out and as a result our room was rather warm. Reception said they could control it from the front desk, but don't think it made a difference! The breakfast buffet catered for EVERY need and taste. We did opt for the set price evening buffet on our last night, and were really glad we did. Again the choice was extensive. The pool bar, although small, was very inviting and at this time of year cosy and warm. Some guests did brave the outside seating area by the pool, which would be lovely in Summer! The staff were really helpful and friendly.

Area recommendations
The hotel is about 10 mins bus ride from the City walls. The City Wall tour is a must! Get there early to avoid the influx of cruise ship passengers! Find the 2 'hole in the wall' bars perched on the cliff outside the walls, overlooking the sea and watch the sun set. We took a boat trip to Lokrum, (10 mins) which was OK, a bit run down. We also took the trip to Cavtat and had a leisurely stroll around the headland, before settling down at one of the waterside cafe's to watch the world go by. Although the cruise ships offer trips here too it wasn't that busy and a nice escape from the bustle of Dubrovnik. A short walk uphill from the Hotel is a pedestrianised street of hotels and bars which leads down to the beach/sea. It was quiet in October, but probably very different in ~Summer. We also spent a few hours walking around the Babin Kuk headland which gave some lovely views out to sea and then of the Gruz bridge and harbour. We found our 3 days plenty long enough to fit loads in!

“good base for a weekend break or longer”

Nice clean hotel, very friendly staff, nice location over the harbour, good varied breakfast selection. Downside, bit of a trudge to the annexe.Room temperature was controlled by a multi button/switch system all of which seemed to keep the heat level on roast

“Great hotel”

Would absolutely recommend hotel Lapad. We booked the junior suite and it was fantastic. Very modern and tastefully decorated with everything you need - even two toilets!! The breakfast buffet was of a high standard and in the evening there is another buffet with so much variety - something for everyone. Only suggestion for improvement would be bigger fluffier towels but this is nit-picking really!! Staff helpful and very good English.

Old city of Dubrovnik is beautiful. Get the bus down the road from the hotel which takes you straight there. Ston is a lovely place to visit - longest city wall in Europe. Then head out a bit further along the peninsula where there are some lovely seaside locations to stop off at.

“a good position for visiting Dubrovnik”

The hotel is in an area west of the old city of dubrovnik, on the shore of the next bay to the west, but connected by a convenient bus service. In Ocrtober it was full of 'Sage holiday' holidaymakers, who seemed very happy with the hotel. The restaurant was efficient in dealing with large numbers, and the food was good; dietary needs were met, discreetly but effectively. The swimming pool faced north, and was becoming cold as the sun was lower. We were very happy there, and would recommend it.

Area recommendations
The area of this hotel: out of the old city, but conveniently close, with a good bus service.
Getting there
The hotel website was not helpful. If you are arriving independently by car, follow the signs for Lapad, and then ask for the hotel (the signs for the hotel are not clear)

“Hotel Lapad - Excellent - Recommend to anyone”

The hotel is brilliant. It is in a really nice location on the harbour opposite the cruise terminal. The bus stop to get into the town is right outside the hotel, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes on the bus to get to the main gate of the old town. There are some really nice restaurants nearby. Just five minutes along the harbour is Yacht Club Osran, you can dine on the jetty next to the boats, lovely. There are also lots of other restaurants on the way to Lapad beach which is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is great, excellent service and really nice rooms. If you have had a long day and don't want to go out, the food in the hotel resturant is really nice. They do a very reasonable buffet and al a carte. There are also some nice walks in the area around the peninsula, we actually say two Kingfishers on our walk which was brilliant.

To stay Lapad To visit, the old town and Cavtat
Getting there
At Dubrovnik airport you can get the Atlas bus for 35 Kuna , about £4. The first stop is at Pile Gate in the old town where you would transfer to Libertas bus number 6. However the bus is so packed. The best thing to do is stay on bus and it will take you to the final stop which is the bus station behind the Cruise terminal at Gruz. You can then get a taxi for around £10 to your hotel or walk (we did it in 40 mins with cases) , if you are staying at the Lapad you can actually see it across the harbour.

“A modern hotel a bit out of town”

Hotel Lapad is amazing, with a large pool and very modern rooms. The rooms have the lately technology and very modern furnishings. However, it is a bit far from the Old Town of Dubrovnik (perhaps 30 minutes by foot or 5 minutes by taxi). Although far from the Old Town, it is located in a very peaceful area right on the bay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations
The old town of Dubrovnik is beautiful and charming. However, be ware of when cruise ships dock. On my trip, literally thousands of cruise ships passengers overwhelmed the small old town. If you visit on one of those days, it's best to avoid the town when they are there and then come back in the afternoon when they return to their mega-ships.

“Nice hotel, but a bit far from old town”

Upon arrival we were upgraded to a superior room, as there was a wedding reception in the hotel that evening. We thought it was a nice touch as our room was nice & large, as was the bathroom with a bath, shower and 2 sinks! The only downside was that there was no view as it faced the courtyard and if you opened the windows, you could hear noise from generators/air con units outside. So, would have preferred a slightly smaller room with a view or one with a balcony. Free wifi was available in the hotel. However, there was only 1 PC in reception and you only got 15mins free use of it at a time, and there could still be a queue to use it! Breakfast was fairly nice with a good selection. However, it was often cold. Pool area was nice but quite small, with only a few loungers. So, it could get a bit busy. Service from reception was very good and extremely helpful & friendly. Location was quiet, near the harbour, but not much to do in the area.

Area recommendations
Would receommend to stay near the old town if you want convenience and to see everything in a few days. Otherwise, Lapad is better for longer stay or if you want to be nearer to the beach.
Getting there
If you're arriving from the port, the hotel is only about 15-20 mins walk. If you take a taxi, you will end up paying around £8 to do a mile!
Getting around
You have to get a bus from near the hotel to the old town, but this takes around 30 mins, unless you walk 10-15mins from the hotel to another bus stop on way to old town, which saves a little time. Buses run until around 1am from the old town.

“Dubrovnik Dream”

We stayed at Hotel Lapad for 8 nights and it was truly fantastic. The location was great as you were away from the crowds in the city but the area is served by a very efficient bus service so popping into the old city in Dubrovnik was easy. There are many cafes and restaurants near to the hotel which meant there were plenty of options for eating out. The buffet breakfast offers a good selection so you never go hungry! The hotel staff were very friendly, efficient and professional and were always on hand to assist. The hotel offers an excursion to three islands which was an enjoyable day out. I believe only a maximum of 10 hotel guests are able to go on the trip so it's worth enquiring fairly early in your stay to avoid disappointment. The hotel guests were a mix of young couples, families and retired couples which meant the stay was very peaceful as all guests clearly wanted to enjoy their stay without noisy groups etc. All in all Hotel Lapad was fantastic and I would recommend it on the basis of our stay. Indeed we would return soon if the opportunity arises!

Getting there
If you don't have transfers booked to and from your hotel use the Atlas bus. It's waiting outside the arrivals at the airport and cost us 35 kunas each for a single trip. It then takes you to the bus station although stops first in the old city. We missed a bus which runs hourly near to our hotel (I believe) so hopped in a taxi which was fairly pricey for the short distance but meant we weren't walking around trying to find the hotel. We struggled to find information on the return Atlas bus so walked to the bus station the day before leaving and a small window displays that day's and the next day's timetable. Perhaps asking our hotel reception would gave been easier!
