“Highly recommended”

The Argosy was clean, comfortable and very friendly. We stayed for 2 weeks and paying extra for a balcony was well worth it as the views from our room overlooked the Adriatic and were stunning. Our room was very clean and the hotel staff were very helpful. We were staying under a b&b basis and the buffet was of a high standard with lots of choice. You can have the dinner buffet if you want but this costs 149 kuna each but again the choice and quality of food is great. Try the Komin Restaurant near the hotel as that is good and cheaper. The bus to Dubrovnik is really easy and the hotel is at the end of the line so you cant miss your stop when you come home. It is busy in the morning but if you go to the Old Town then you will hit the crowds from all the cruises that arrive daily and we found it much more relaxing to go later in the afternoon and then stay for dinner in the evening as the cruise crowds have left by then. We were a bit dissappointed by Dubrovnik itself so do try and go on day trips - the one to Mostar in Bosnia is good and we did this through the hotel. If you go to Montenegro try and avoid Budvar as it is awful and tacky! The hotel pool area is quite small but we could always get a sunbed but try the nearby Copacabana beach which is lovely. A lot of tour groups stay at the hotel for short periods and 90% of the guests are pensioners so bear this in mind if you are young and looking for a more active holiday - it didnt bother us as we just wanted to relax!

Area recommendations
Use the bus - we never had to wait as there is one every 10 minutes. If you go to the booths at the Pile Gate as you can buy tickets in advance for 10 kuna each rather than pay 12 kuna on the bus itself. Go to Cavtat for the afternoon. We took the no.6 bus and changed at the main bus terminus and took the no.10 there (about an hour's journey) the second bus charges 17 kuna. Its beautiful and a great place for a swim and a sunbathe but it's a small town and there's not much else to do but it's a lovely place for lunch and people watching as yachts are constantly sailing in and out. You can take taxi ferry back to the Old Town in Dubrovnik for 50 kuna and this takes 50 minutes - really recommend it! The last one leaves at 5pm I think. If you decide to use the taxi ferry both ways that costs 80 kuna. Bring insect repellant with you and use it - its not just mosquitoes you need to watch out for!

“It was a lovely stay.”

Peaceful, the hotel have lots of things to do. It's easy to get to old town center with the bus and there is some markets and restaurant near by. You can take a walk in the parks at night around the hotel. Generally there are alot of EU tourists who stay at this hotel.

“Punches above its weight”

Hotel Argosy is a well run, clean and modern hotel which delivers more than its official 3* rating. The staff are pleasant and and helpful. The hotel facilities are more than adequate, with a decent size pool and plenty of space to relax both inside and outside the hotel. We had prompt attention to a faulty wardrobe door and to re-setting our safe code. Both breakfast and dinner buffets were very good with all items being replenished as they ran out, even at five to ten when breakfast ended. I really recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing break.

Area recommendations
Try walking aloing the coast to the left of the hotel. You will be able to walk for an hour which is mostly in the shade and you can stop for coffee/cold drink at one of the hotels en route and take in the fantastic view.
Getting there
on't bother witht the bus from the airport to the bus station. You will only save a few pounds and it is not worth the hassle. Just take a cab which will cost about 250 Kuna.

“Dubrovnik - Argosy”

Hotel on the opposite side from town, but # 6 bus comes right ti the door and goes right to old city so no parking problem - great view of bay and really good food (brkft and dinner), be sure you have good directions to the hotel

Area recommendations
Don't go to the Orsan rest. at the yacht club - high cost and bad staff - food not that good.

“Relax and enjoy”

Although the hotel was a little way out from Old town and away from the main body of bars and eateries it is in a very pleasant setting with a park just outside. Although a restaurant is nestled in this park with a couple of bars that serve snacks in the small shopping mall next door the half mile stroll along the waterside to the local restaurants was very pleasurable each evening. If you're not upto the walk the no 6 bus runs so frequently to take you either there or into the old town to eat. We took some lovely walks around the peninsula, but the hills are very steep so not good for the less able bodied. Only bad thing was the bus enroute to the old town mid morning - they pack you in like sardines!! Can get a bit uncomfortable. In the old town a walk around the walls is a must - but avoid oin hot weather as there's not too much shelter. The short trip upto the Napolean fort in the cable car is worth the effort. The views are stunning and the small museum with its war memorabillia and video showing actual bombimg of the surrounding area, makes you appreciate all these generally happy, hardy people have come so far in such a short few years. Over all a beautiful place and well worth another visit to explore all the surrounding areas.

“Wonderful position”

The Hotel Argosy was a joy. From the variety of breakfast offerings to the evening music in the courtyard which was a wonderful surprise, except on theSaturday when we had Croatian folk music!!! The staff were so helpful and cheerful.

Area recommendations
If staying at the Argosy, Komin is a good taverna nearby.
Dining
Mea Culpa in the walled city for lunch was great. The best Pizzas ever and the staff so friendly. Not expensive either.

“Highly recommended”

Hotel Argosy was very good value for money. It is in Babin Kuk region, which is 3 miles or so from the old town, but the bus service was excellent (every 15mins or so till 1am) making it easy to get into the heart of Dubrovnik. Facilites were ok. Food pretty good. Pool looked nice, but a bit chilly for swimming in late Oct ;-) 2 or 3 small but nice beaches nearby. All in all a great place to stay.

Area recommendations
Dubovnik itself is definitely worth a visit. Very picturesque, lots to see and do even if raining and the Croatians were extremely friendly and helpful. Again highly recommend a visit. Probably better to go slightly earlier in season as it was very quite in late October.
Traveller's tip
Hotel very good value for money and nice location if you don't want to be in the heart of the city. Bus 6 is a cheap, quick and easy way into town.

“spacious room, easy to get around the town”

Overall, this hotel maintains good standard on everything and also easy to go around the town as there are bus stop just next to the hotel. Our room is very spacious and clean. Only one thing we didn't like in the room is air-con that is quite complicated to adjust the temperature. This one is quite a good value if you are ok with conventional style.
