    “Very child-friendly”

The hotel is very well located, a few minutes from the entrance to the old town. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and we were particularly struck by how child-friendly the hotel was. Our daughter stayed for free and ate for free. The pool is open until late at night and the steam room and sauna are close by which meant that we could take turns using that while one of us stayed with our daughter in the pool - we swam every day! The breakfast buffet is extremely good with a wonderful selection of food. On top of that, we were offered extra items such as pancakes, freshly cooked. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly, so we would definitely go back to this hotel and recommend it.

    “Fantastic - Croatia's Best Hotel”

The Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik consecutively won World Travel Awards' Best Hotel in Croatia for 2010 and 2011, and its shows. From the quality of the rooms to the attentiveness of the staff on check-in, no detail is overlooked. The hotel is extremely well situated, just steps away from the Old City, as well as close to the one of Dubrovnik's many coves for those wanting a dip in the sea. Whether you want to have a drink at the bar overlooking the sea, grab a workout in the gym, loll in the pool, or simply enjoy the garden, the Imperial offers a pleasant and comfortable retreat. Highly recommended.

    Area recommendations
The Old City of Dubrovnik is a jewel not to be missed. A walk around the city walls is a must.
    When to go
If you travel in mid-October to early November, you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the summer season and the cruise ships. The weather, if you are lucky, can still be quite warm and sunny, offering the opportunity to still swim in the sea, if you desire.
    Getting there
Dubrovnik is about four hours by car from Split. Roads are largely super highway, with construction underway on the last bit. Be aware that you have to travel between Croatia and Bosnia for one section of the route. Look for the stands of fresh oranges by the side of the road just before you pass into Bosnia.
    Dining
Lunch or dinner in the old port's Arsenal restaurant offers romantic views of fishing boats. Stop in, too, to see Szash Lusic, the owner and manager of d'Vino Wine Bar. He has a solid selection of Croatian wines, with an excellent tasting menu. If you like reds, the Mutuska Dincac, with its hints of chocolate and cherry, is sure to please. Nearby, try Dalmatino for traditional Dalmatian cuisine. The seafood platter for two is excellent.

“Good Quality Hotel in Excellent Location”

Stayed last week October, great weather, great location very close to Old Town (Pile Gate). Hotel staff very friendly and efficient. Breakfasts were fine, not too much of a bun fight! Bar quite relaxing, except chairs look good but aren't too comfortable. Pool very good. Would strongly recomend this Hotel.

Old Town, full of history, character and charm.
    When to go
We went late October, wouldn't like to go in high season, could see cruise ships causing problems with over crowding in Old Town.
    Dining
For friendly service and good food try Konoba Rozario in the Old town.

    “Not Impressed”

Location with regards to proximity to old town was good, however if you are looking to be close to water it was not great. Have been to better Hilton hotels as far as rooms are concerned.

    “Really good location”

Lovely Hotel, in a good location just outside the Old Town. In the heat of the summer it was good to return to the hotel to use the indoor pool where it was cooler. Would be nice to have a few more places to sit outside in the shade. Having a bedroom on the ground floor, the view was just bushes infront of a wall which was rather disappointing. Really comfortable bed, good air conditioning system and no noise from neigbours or the street made sleeping very easy.A few housekeeping errors were very quickly dealt with. Staff very obliging and can arrange trips, taxi to the airport etc. Trips to the Eliphite Islands, Montenegro and Mostar were good (but the latter two involve a lot of travelling).Didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but found loads of places to eat in and out of the old town. The waiters in some restaurants can be quite annoying pestering you as you look at the menus. A week is plenty of time to stay in Dubrovnik and surrounding area. A nice place to visit but having spent two weeks there don't feel the need to go back again too soon.

    Area recommendations
The seaside town of Cavtat, a half hour bus ride from Dubrovnik, seemed like a good place to be based if you want to get away from the busy city and want a beach. Beaches in Dubrovnik itself are not great.
    When to go
We went in August and although the Dubrovnik Festival is on them so there are possibly more things to see and hear, it is very hot and when a cruise ship arrives extremely busy
    Getting there
We had a bad experience travelling with Austrian Airways regarding baggage. It arrived a day late on the journey there and one case was left in Vienna on the way back and was damp with some damage to the clothes inside. It was delivered to us 2 days after our return. Travelling to the hotel we caught a bus from the airport (not having our cases made this easier). For the return journey the hotel booked us a taxi. Taxi fees are advertised by taxi ranks so there is les likelihood of getting ripped off.
    Getting around
Dubrovnik is very easy to walk round. Use the cable car to go up Mt Srd for a lovely view of the old town. Buses are relatively cheap and you can buy the tickets from a booth or on the bus. there are loads of boats taking you on island excursions - and there are a lot of them to visit. If you want to travel to Korcula you need to be at the ticket office at Gruz Harbour 2 hours before it opens (about 7am) otherwise you could queue for over an hour only to be told that there is no room on the boat and there are only a few crossings a week- so beware.
    Must see
Walk along the walls of the old town, go up Mount Srd in the cable car for great views, travel to Montenegro around the Bay of Kotor and up the zigzag road (but don't look out of the window!), visit Mostar in Bosnia (very touristy). Stradun is a must especially at night. Lovrijenic Fort outside the walls has some good views. Aquarium in Dubrovnik was very disappointing.
    Dining
If you like fish, Dubrovnik is the place to go. The only place in the Old Town where we saw no fish on the menu was The Taj Mahal (which is not an Indian Restaurant but a Bosnian one). There was a queue outside this restaurant every night and we tried it once. It was good but so were all the othere restaurants we ate at. We stayed 14 nights and ate in a different place each night. Two main courses, a bottle of wine and water came to an average of £60. We enjoyed our daily ice creams.
    Outdoors or beach
The Croatian beaches that we experienced were not sandy but people either swim from the rocks or a 'beach of concrete' has been laid which is not always very comfortable to lie on. The water is very clear and good for snorkelling. Beaches close to the old city itself are not very inviting. Lapad and Babin Kuk are more geared to beach holidays and Cavtat in the other direction (but further away).

    “Can't Beat the Location!!!”

I have a lot of wonderful things to say about this hotel. The hotel is centrally located right in the heart of Old Town (literally). It is so convenient to take the shuttle bus from the airport to Old Town for 5 Euro and the hotel is right in front of the bus stop making it convenient for late night travelers or people who are not familiar with the area. Old Town is wonderful, lots to do and see. The hotel breakfast buffet was "THE BEST" I have ever had in Europe. It should be advertised as a BRUNCH because it served items that were not necessarily "breakfast-type" choices...or not what I am used to. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. They accommodated many of my needs to the best of their ability. If I had to make a complaint, I would have to say that the internet is extremely expensive. I was a little disappointed that the hotel did not offer a computer in the business center that was free of charge for hotel guests. On the other hand, the fitness room, sauna, and pool were free and well worth it. The fitness center was well equipped with many different machines, free weights, and cardio equipment. Overall, my experience with the hotel was wonderful and I would go back in a heartbeat. Enjoy Dubrovnik!

Fantastic location, the hotel is virtually at the gates of the Old City. We recommend the Executive Room- ask for a room overlooking the old city/ocean, the view is amazing.

    “Brilliant Break”

We have just returned from the Hilton Dubrovnik and cannot fault it, we arrived early and left our bags and later went back to check in which was very quick and straight forward. Couldnt believe how easily we found it when we got off the bus from the airport, literally across the road and straight in front of us. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but it was delicious, plenty of choice and sitting in the warmth of the outside terrace was heaven. Lovely big clean and comfortable beds, my only criticism would be that the room was dark , with not a lot of natural daylight , but this was probably because we were on the ground floor at the side, surrounded by bushes which obviously helped make the room private and meant that we didnt have to have the curtains shut all the time. We would definately stay here again.

We took the local No. 10 bus into Cavtat which was a beautiful day out .

“best five star hotel in Dubrovnik”

From the moment we walked in until the moment we check out and left the hotel, nothing was short of top class and excellence in every possible way. Gluten free bread waiting for my wife every morning was an example of luxury and special attention one does not get often - anywhere. Will definitely come back (late May / early June - to avoid cruise ship crowds), and will stay at Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik. Literally 3 minutes from Stradun, this five-star hotel does not carry any extra luggage from socialist era five star hotels. Hilton Dubrovnik was awarded special Hilton recognition in 2010 (Connie prize) as one of the best Hilton hotels throughout the world. Impressive hotel, impressive and immaculate service.

    Area recommendations
You will find enough guides for Dubrovnik, but do NOT miss: - Rector's palace (Knezev dvor) - almond cake (kolac od mijendula) at Gradska Kavana - Restaurant Proto (don't go to others that are better "ranked", this one is THE best) - walk around the city walls - Nautical museum - Gallery of Orthodox icons (Museum of Icons, Orthodox Church) - shop for souvenirs at Uje
    When to go
anytime but July and August - if you want to avoid the crowds. Late May / early June is best.
