“Charming staff”

The staff at the hotel were totally charming and could not do enough for you. A new building with sensational views and a beautiful private beach. The restaurant also served very good food but expensive. The breakfast is everything you could want and would last you all day if so required. Beds comfortable but TV limited for English speakers. If in Dubrovnik again we would be happy to stay there.

Area recommendations
Old City- little else except offshore islands. Everything seems to shut down at the end of September and the weather can break.
Dining
Plenty of it but expensive for what you get. Beware of the supposed 'fresh fish' everywhere- a lot is frozen. Ask to see it.

“Haven within 15 minutes of Dubrovnik's "Old Town"”

The Bellevue Hotel is situated in a beautiful location, about 15 minutes' walk from the gates of the famed "Old Town" in Dubrovnik. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful and sincere and the hotel's facilities are first class. We would happily return and can also recommend the hotel to anyone who wants some peace and serenity in Dubrovnik after the crowds and mass tourism encountered only a short distance away.

Area recommendations
Visiting the "Old Town" area of Dubrovnik is essential, but be prepared for mass tourism, hordes of people, nasty souvenir shops and poor quality restaurants, delivering sub-standard, surly service. Do not stay in this area; it is far too busy. There are many hotels just outside the gates, and it is such a relief to escape the crowds!

“A lovely hotel in a great location”

The Bellevue hotel in Dubrovnik was conveniently located between the old town and the Lapad area where a lot of the newer hotels are located. Whilst it was a 20 minute uphill walk from the old town back to the hotel the view from the hotel was worth the walk. The hotel had an excellent in house restaurant -Vapor and a lovely bar and dining facility on its beach which could be reached using the hotel lift. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly when asked for assistance. The free in-house internet allowed us to keep in touch with the rest of the world and check on our next days planned eating or excursions. We would certainly have no hesitation booking it again when we go back to Dubrovnik.

“Fabulous balcony view of the Dalmatian Coast”

Beautiful hotel with beach, sea views, lovely spa, dining and bar outdoor patio-- one of my favorite places to stay ever.

Area recommendations
The location of the Bellevue is great because it's a short walk to Dubrovnik's old town, and right on the coast.

“Excellent - can't wait to go back”

The hotel is light and airy. The staff are very attentive (though not too much so) and always have a smile. During our 4 night stay it was my wife's birthday - they spotted this when we arrived from her passport and when we came back to the hotel on her birthday we found a vase of flowers and a small birthday cake in our room - nice thought and typical of their attention to detail. The rooms have a good sea view. The location is good - only 20 to 25 minutes walk from the old town (or a reasonably frequent bus service). Breakfasts were good, we did not try lunch or dinner as the menu looked a little expensive.

Area recommendations
All the interesting attractions are in the old city but there are few good hotels there. The Bellevue hotel is one of the closest to the old city - 20 to 25 minutes walk or a short bus ride.

“Yes & No - It just depends on what you want.”

Although the country hasn't gone to the Euro the hotel basically has only 1 restaurant which is quite expensive. I have traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. I'm not that impressed with the quality of the food which amounted to about $70-$80 for two entrees and 2 glasses of wine. I did see on my last day there that if you exit the hotel lobby, turn left and walk up and a little bit down the hill, there are 2-3 restaurants which look good and appear more reasonable. The walk to Old Town is not quite as short/easy as they claim. It's hot during the summer. It can be done but just be prepared. My suggestion is to book the Hilton which is literally right outside the doorsteps to Old Town and there is a D&M where you can buy soda and water and not pay the usual $3-6 drinks at the hotel or hotel restaurants. If you do stay at the Bellevue, on the same walk to Old Town where you make your first right, you can make a left instead and walk down the hill a bit and there is a local supermarket. Mind you, the hotel doesn't allow you to bring in food and drink so bring a backpack to conceal your snack items and drinks. I don't know why but when I'm on vacation I am more thirsty and hungry for little snacks. A taxi ride of literally maybe 2 miles costs $10 plus tip to get to Old Town. The restaurants there are pricey but I did see that the street above the main street is more reasonable but no A/C but 4 maybe 2 places

Area recommendations
The area literally outside the Old Town Walls is the best but the Bellevue does have one of the nicer beaches.
When to go
Arrrghh! It's hot people. For some strange reason, they close down the city October-December. After having gone in late August, I have to say I don't know why. I was walking around literally naked and still sweating. And it wasn't just me, even the locals had to fan themselves. That said I think the best time would be sometime in spring before the temperatures rise too much and the water is warm.
Getting there
Definitely DO NOT FLY SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES (SAS)!!!! OMG!!!!! They lost our luggage going to Dubrovnik and it took them 4 days to get it to us. Then on our return flight and after we had already landed back in Washington DC and had retrieved ALL our luggage, I got a phone call from SAS saying that they found my bag and that I didn't collect it in Washington and I needed to call them. I should have called them to see if what luggage they would have turned up with. LOL Plus I've never been on a dirtier airplane. And that's bad since I've flown to Burundi and their national airplane was cleaner than SAS's. We did some research in Dubrovnik when we were trying to locate our luggage and it seems that numerous people have reported SAS and Copenhagen Airport are by far always losing luggage and incompetent. I hate going thru Frankfurt but now Frankfurt it shall be.
Getting around
The taxis are quite expensive so choose your hotel location wisely. From the Bellevue Hotel, it cost $10 plus tip for what was about a 2 mile trip. The buses seem quite nice and air conditioned so ask your concierge for bus routes.

“A great experience”

A magical location with magnificent sea views - within easy walking distance of the old town yet away from the crowds. The staff were fantastic - very helpful and courteous but not at all intrusive. We recommend it without hesitation.

When to go
End of May - the weather was beautiful, warm and sunny but not too hot.

“Simply Amazing”

We couldn't have been happier with our experience at the Bellevue. The hotel was beatuiful, elegant and modern, yet had an old world charm that fit perfectly into the surroundings. It is built into a huge rock cliff that looks out onto the Sea. Spectacular views. My wife and I went there for 4 nights on our honeymoon, and were stunned by the hotel. The staff was verz attentive, but not overbearing. They upgraded our room for free, giving us a gorgeous balcony overlooking the private beach 8 stories below. We sat on our little porch and drank wine every night. The complimentary breakfast was ample and view tasty. Lots of local foods, but they also had eggs, sausage, bacon and the like for a hungry man. Most of the dinning space is on a porch that overlooks the sea, which was beautiful. Excellent dinner as well. The private beach was really beautiful and very secluded. A unique spot, that most of the other hotels in the area didnt have. It was a huge plus. Overall, an amazing experience. I would recommend to anyone going to the area. THe

“excellent value with offers”

went for a long weekend with my wife in May. would definitely recommend the airport pickup service - cheaper than using taxis. hotel in general was excellently presented with stunning views. the only problem was the lift was slightly in our way of our view of the beach from our balcony (would assume the same for all rooms ending with -04), but in fairness we didn't try to complain. not sure if the room lives up to the opulence that you expect from a 5star hotel, but comfortable and clean nonetheless. 10 minute walk into/from old town gets an awesome view as well so not too laborious. spa facilities were also impressive and not overpriced. staff were all very helpful and courteous
