Excellent venue for a short break.

Posted 17-Jul-2014
Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable lounge, and good food.
Cons: Knock down the library still being built as it spoils the view. Should not have been allowed as there is a library just up the street.
Location: Just a short DART or bus ride away is Dublin city, Bray, and Howth.
A true 4 Star hotel,, Victorian splendor combined with modern facilities. Close to the DART and Ferry Terminal makes it easy to visit Dublin's attractions.

Nice hotel overlooking the sea

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Pros: Proximity to sea, town and services. Friendly, service minded staff. Rooms well laid out and very comfortable.
Cons: Unfortunately, there is an odour of stale food when one reaches reception, which is very disappointing as otherwise the hotel is excellent.
Location: A fine selection of restaurants and coffee shops. Great walks along the coast and piers. Good selection of shops and boutiques.
Old style hotel with modern facilities. Very clean and service excellent. Rooms nicely decorated and very comfortable beds.Swimming pool. A wide range of spa treatments which unfortunately I did not have time to use but next time I definitely will. It was very handy for me as my daughter had her debs ball at the yacht club which is only a five minute walk from the hotel. The airport coach comes directly to the entrance and so is very convenient for transit to and from the airport. The service was prompt when I asked for someone to take my bags down on checking out. It is very near for restaurants and shops and also for walks along the pier etc., as Dunlaoire is a lovely seaside town. We ate surf and turf in Hartleys restaurant one evening, which is very near on the sea front and would recommend it to anyone staying at the Royal Marine as the food was excellent and is just a stone' throw from the hotel.

Several Disappointments - Failing Grandeur!

Posted 29-Jun-2014
Pros: Comfortable room
Cons: More staff, with better training and direction.
Location: Disappointing. At one time, this has obviously been a grand hotel in a great location, but both are now looking past their best.
Our room was clean and comfortable, however the hotel seemed to be suffering from poor organisation and maybe too few staff. The breakfast was a shambles from start to finish. We came down about 09.30 - first no glasses for the juice, then no plates, then run out of eggs. The food was also virtually cold. There were vacated tables all around us with uncleared dishes etc. Very pleasant and helpful lady in attendance, but she did not seem to have enough help or have anything under control. We had a meal in the hotel bar. The food was actually very good, but the whole room was very dimly lit and a bit depressing. The sea view from our room was OK and would previously have been excellent. I appreciate the hotel was not to blame for the fact that there is a complete monstrosity of a library being built right in front of it, which spoils the overall frontage. Clearly, the planners in Dun Laorghaire have lost the plot as this new building is hideous and not at all in keeping!

Nice hotel close to shopping transport and the sea

Posted 21-Jun-2014
Pros: Quiet comfortable lounges. Good service. Good breakfast. Unbeatable position and sea views.
Cons: Bathroom could be updated. Bath had enamel flaking off. Shower a bit feeble. TV had no Euronews or BBC News channels.
Location: Location excellent for sailing and walking by the sea. Also for shopping and eating outlets.
Room was upgraded to sea view for no extra charge. Hotel within walking distance of DART, Stena ferry, good bus transport into the city and airport. Shops within 5 mins walking distance. Promenade and pier within 5 mins walking distance.
