A beautiful hotel, first class staff, great stay.

Posted 21-Apr-2015
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Only the view from our room as mentioned above.
Location: We did everything. The bus tour of the city (both), the visit to the Guinness brewery, St Stephen's Green, the Museum of Dublin, the Writer's Museum.
We were met be a lovely receptionist, shown to our room, which was wonderful in terms of furniture, fixtures and fittings. The only downside of the stay at all, which prevented giving 5 stars was the fact that the view from the window was a brick wall and a full skip; full of rubbish from Tesco which was situated behind the hotel. During the evening, with the window open, there was a lot of street noise and vagrants scrabbling about in the skip. I appreciate we were not in one of the luxury rooms, but nevertheless, it is worth mentioning. This of course, is beyond the hotel's powers. However, it did not spoil our stay. The spa was used each day and the facilities there were wonderful. The pool is excellent, the gym first rate and the steam room great, and there was a well equipped set of changing rooms with lovely soap, deodorant and body lotion, was a lovely touch, as well as the fruit water and fresh fruit available in the relaxation area outside. The staff could not have been better and the hotel is lovely. Highly recommended.

Great hotel close to Dublin's landmarks and pubs

Posted 16-Apr-2015
Pros: Location and the ambiance. The staff were wonderful. When we arrived back at the hotel at 2.30 am starving we had prompt room service dinner
Location: Sandyman's free walking tour .A day trip to Houwth, a walk through St Steven's Green.. Just walking everywhere
Two pubs of note within steps on the hotel Donahue's .... have a celi every Sunday beginning at 5pm and then there is Dhonny's. Sandyman's free walking tour is a great way to learn some history and get oriented to the city. The art work in the hotel , open log fires

A magnificent hotel!

Every detail of our stay at the Merrion was perfect. The staff could not be more hospitable, friendly or helpful. The facilities are elegant, comfortable and tastefully understated. The Merrion boasts an extraordinary collection of fine art that enriches the visitor's stay and is creatively woven into the not-to-be-missed high tea. The spa and its beautiful pool are an oasis of relaxation and pleasure. It is the ideal place to stay in Dublin and we plan to return often!

Immaculate with excellent service

Posted 23-Mar-2015
Pros: The service was perfect
Cons: Nothing
Location: Gallery, St Stephens Green
This hotel was in such a nice location and all the good reviews lived up to their promises. We will certainly return to their new and improved premises. But I must say, any work they were doing was done with minimal disruption.

good hotel good location

Posted 16-Mar-2015
Pros: location
Cons: it is an old refurbed collection of town houses which works well so change would be a challenge
Location: best location in Dublin
the hotel is very comfortable, the standards are as you would expect from a leading hotel and the location is excellent for shopping and dining out. I think the rating of around 4.5 is fair.

Dress Code?

Posted 15-Mar-2015
Fantastic hotel but be prepared to feel like you're staying at Downton Abbey. The hotel manual even suggests a dress code - smart casual. If you feel comfortable with this, you will love this hotel. I didn't.

Luxurious expensive hotel

Posted 09-Mar-2015
The Merrion has excellent staff-very professional and courteous. The hotel is cental in Dublin-very close to St Stephen's Green. Our room overlooked a little side alley and bins on the first night but we didn't mind too much. Mini bar was well stocked but expensive, as is breakfast so we ate out during the day. Dinner in Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud was a once in a lifetime experience-literally as it cost €350 for 2 people for 3 courses with drinks. That's probably to be expected for 2 Michelin stars. Overall a lovely stay but maybe a week in a hot country would have cost the same as 2 nights here. If you can afford it-spoil yourselves!
