“Maldron Hotel Smithfield”

On the plus side: We had a 4th floor family room and views over the city were OK. The room had a balcony. The beds were comfortable. The multi-channel TV worked. The Breakfasts were good and reasonably priced. The evening meals ditto. There were complementary Newspapers in the lounge. It was close the river and most of the locations for the craic. Reception staff [Polish mostly] very friendly. On the minus side: You have to pay extra for parking [albeit discounted] There were only two cups for a three person family room. Our trouser press was dangerous. It was probably incorrectly wired. It did not work when buttons were pressed, but the attached iron came on instead. The bedside lights were incorrectly wired also., The left side switch turned on the right side lamp and vice-versa. The extractor in the bathroom did not work. This made using it for any purpose very unpleasant for those either inside or outside of it. Lamp-stand had no bulb an when I switched one out of a lamp that did work, it didn't work. On arrival I asked Reception to make good all these problems or move us to another room. None of which happened.

“Quiet hotel near the heart of the city”

We booked the Maldron Smithfield hotel in Dublin as the reviews said it was a quiet hotel within walking distance of Temple Bar, an area we were interested in visiting and spending our evenings there. The hotel was easy to find (printed a map) and was indeed walking distance from Temple Bar area and took approximately 20 minutes to get there or back. There was very little noise disturbance in our room, even with the window open (we had a room that faced into the internal courtyard). The room was clean, bar a few stains on the carpet which is forgivable, and the bathroom was spotless and modern (which is always nice!!). On checking out we were offered to have our luggage stored for the day (we declined) and were able to check in for our flight later that day for free as well as print off our boarding passes. I would definitely recommend staying here if you don't mind walking to Temple Bar, although I'm sure there would be a bus that went in that direction if required.

Area recommendations
Temple Bar is closely located to this hotel, which we visited several times. If there was enough time we would have visited the Jameson distillery and/or the Guiness factory.

“nice hotel”

A great hotel in Dublin, and only 2 tram stops away from temple bar and shopping. The hotel has all the necesseties for a cheap price. Its conveniently located close to tram stop.

Area recommendations
Temple Bar area since this is where all the shopping and the bars are at. This is also the heart of Dublin. It might get really loud there at night.
Getting around
There is a tram service and a bus service. The train service is not so close to the hotel. The tram runs until 12:30am so if your partying later you can still walk to the hotel but it will take about 17minutes, so take a cab theyre conveniently available around.

“Close to LUAS a big plus.”

Smithfields is due for a second urban renewal. Most of the area shops closed. Staff helped me order food that was delivered. Hotel is a bargain at Expedia rates. Very nice room although the shower was a little snug. I'd like to see a bowed shower curtain rod and higher shower head. Personally, I don't think the neighbourhood's safe at night but I felt safe in the hotel. Lift requires your room card. Close to LUAS and Four Courts. I'd stay there again.

Area recommendations
Baggot Street. Close to city centre but quiet.

“We loved it - walked a lot though”

We arrived quite late; found the place easily after looking it up on the map and checked in fast without problem. The room was clean and bigger than I expected. The area was quiet and looked as part of a recent development. The hotel is near a Luas station (Smithfield); on foot about 20 minutes from O'Connell street so we usually walked. The check-out was smooth and the staff helpful. There is a store right next to the hotel which came handy.

Area recommendations
Dublin is pretty easy to get around even on foot. We walked a lot but that was fine. We also took a train to get to Malahide which was easy as well though there was only about 2 trains each our or so. Perhaps we should have check before. :)))
When to go
We visited the following attractions: - Kilmainham Gaol (Jail): It was interesting to see how Irelands' history can be told in a jail surrounding. - Guinness Storehouse: Very modern but a bit unpersonal. You could see the steps of beer making. The best part is the top restaurant with the view. - Dublinia: Best for kids and families though as young adults we also enjoyed playing around. - The Old Jameson Distillery: One of the best things we saw. The tour-guide was great and we got to compare whiskeys. - GhostBus Tour: It was very spookey. The guide was funny and there was probaly no other way We'd have visited a graveyard at night. - Malahide town & castle: Took the train not the tour and this was the highlight of our stay. The town is small and the locals friendly. The Castle was itself a great tour and the town was also worth it.
Getting there
I didn't count that they are not serving food on the flight which would have been useful to know earlier. From the airport we took the bus into the city. There are several options. In the city we usually went on foot and on rare occasions travelled on the Luas (tram). There are several bus routes but we preferred walking as sometimes it's faster.
Shopping
What can I say... lot of great stores. There is Grafton Street, O'Connell Street and Henry Street. There is a huge shopping mall on Grafton. But the best was Henry St.
Events and shows
We went to the Irish Music & Dance show at Arlington Hotel on Bachelor's Walk by the river near O'Connell street.

“Maldron Smithfield”

Stayed in the hotel when it first opened as a Comfort Inn. That stay was much nicer. The hotel was not as clean or well kept this time, and the staff was not nearly as persoanable and friendly.
