Grand Ol' place

Posted 17-Sep-2014
Pros: Ambiance
Cons: Time to update the room and do some customer service training. Staff shouldn't assume all computer problems are due to users fault.
Location: Loved the Greedy Goose for dinner, glad the hotel staff made our reservations!
Well appointed lobby and public spaces. Comfortable bar areas. The room we had faced the water (yay!) but there was some road noise as we left the window open. No air conditioning, issues with wifi access. The room was comfortable, but a little run down - tears in the curtains, peeling wallpaper, mildew in the shower. It was still a 'Grand' end to our vacation stay in Ireland. I'd stay again.

Excellent hotel but stay almost ruined by Expedia.

Pros: Everything
Cons: The TV in the room was a bit small.
Location: The town has everything you could reasonably expect.
When we saw our rooms we were horrified but the hotel very generously moved us to better rooms.

Lovely hide away just outside Dublin.

Pros: Everything. Leisure facilities were great. Late check out option was great too. Food in Ryans bar was lovely too and reasonably priced.
Cons: LCD tvs in the rooms would be great, but there was a good selection of tv channels already available so its not a deal breaker.
Location: Perfect location. Can't believe I didn't discover Malahide before.
Staff could not have done enough. We only had to ask and they did it. My friend was coming back from a long haul flight that night, and they had a hot dinner ready for him when he got back at 10.30pm that night - which was after the restaurant closed - even put me through to the chef on the phone to make sure we could get something in particular to my friends special dietary requirements. We asked for a quiet room, and got one on the top floor which was really peaceful. I am well travelled, and have never been at a hotel before where ALL the staff were helpful and pleasant. Even the team of cleaners greeted us in the mornings. The training must be rigorous at this hotel in terms of customer service - and it shows. Hotel itself is a tiny bit old fashioned, but it's part of its character. Would recommend!

Out of date.

Posted 24-Aug-2014
Pros: Nice view & foyer.
Cons: Look at breakfasts in modern up to date 4 star hotels.
Location: Nice restaurants & pleasant walks.
Thought that 16 euros each for a very ordinary Irish breakfast was excessive.

Good in parts, some wonderful, some poor

Posted 24-Aug-2014
We love this hotel but the experience v much depends on the room. Outside of executive rooms the rest are fairly mediocre with v dated furniture and poor finish. Our room had a 3 inch gap below the door. Absence of air con is a massive minus.

Overnight stay on way home from touring

Posted 16-Jul-2014
Pros: Position - overlooking bay, lovely public areas and very comfortable bedrooms.
Location: There are many restaurants nearby which are worth visiting. Also, take the Dart train into Dublin or perhaps even Greystones.
My husband stayed (our fourth visit) in The Grand, Malahide, for one night on our way home from a touring holiday in south of Ireland. As usual, we could everything to be first class. We have never had a bad experience in this hotel.
