“great stay”

very comfortable hotel, well maintained and very clean. Location wise : 15 min walk from grafton street but very central to Grand Canal Theatre, Aviva stadium. Hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating. It was my second time staying there and i will stay again without doubt. The guinness in the bar (gasworks) was better than a lot of good pubsAine

“First Visit to Dublin - very impressed”

Great hotel, good location, near to the School House 'Aircoach' stop which is only about 5 minutes walk away. Dublin City Tour 'hop on hop off'' stop is only a 10 minutes walk from the hotel to Merrion Square. Very comfortable hotel, good facilities - restaurant and bar, room is spacious however pillows very hard! Tea/coffee making facilities in the room but kettle takes a long time to boil! Room service was prompt and very good and the full Irish breakfast at a very reasonable price is to be highly recommended. Transfer to the O2 was somewhat chaotic, traffic was a problem with a late departure from the hotel and a late arrival at the venue; this aspect could be much better organised. Overall very pleased with the hotel, staff were very courteous and helpful and would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends. Thank you very much Grand Canal Hotel!!

Area recommendations
Dublin City Centre for Trinity College (Book of Kells & Long Library - a must) and the Shop. The 2 day bus pass on the Red Hop on-Hop Off Dublin City Tour is great value; Temple Bar is excellent for the choice of bars & restaurants. A visit to 'O Neills' in Suffolk Street is to be recommended for a traditional pint of Guinness and a wonderful choice of good food.
Getting there
From the Airport use the Aircoach to the city centre , very helpful and courteous staff.
Getting around
Dublin City Tour - used the Red Bus which was an excellent way of seeing the city and getting one's bearings - highly recommended.
Dining
Definitely try Gallagher's Boxty restaurant in Temple Bar - food very good. 'O Neill's' restaurant in Suffolk Street with its great choice of hot and cold food is highly recommended.

“A very good choice”

I found the hotel to be very pleasant and comfortable. Good location - walking distance to maun attractions and buses ckose by, but also gave opportuniy to see and enjoy other areas that had a lot to offer. Pub attached to hotel very good and other good reataurants nearby. I found staff to be pleasant and helpful. Tarrif was very good through on line booking and I would definitely choose to stay here again.

Getting there
Air coach from airoort was good value, but allow plenty if time for return trip.
Getting around
I didn't have the chance to use,but bikes would be a great way to get around, and there are many convenient locations to access the bike system.
What to pack
An umbrella is a must!
Dining
Pub attached to hotel was good, andi can also recommend Bridge bar and grill which is very close. Schoolhouse hotel has good food and live music.

“hotel good bar very noisy”

we stayed at this hotel twice. when we first arrived in Dublin & again at the end of our holiday. For the most part if you get the executive which are located near the back of the hotel & are on upper floors its great. If you get just the hotel room you are in the rooms over & near the bar which has the music banging until 2 or 3 in the morning. Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. the convenience of them providing parking was a plus as we had a rental car. no charge for the underground parking. the staff were very friendly & helpful. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to Grafton st. the shopping area of Dublin & not necessarily in the best neighbourhoods but not the worst either. like many foreign places i wouldn't walk them at night. if you are in the temple bar area or shopping district take a bus or train from downtown. The train station is located only half a block from the hotel. Although the hotel had a lot going for it i would prefer to stay closer to grafton st. but parking spaces for those hotels are scarce.

Area recommendations
Personally I would recommend staying closer to center town in dublin as everything is going on there. there is the shopping district as well as temple bar, trinity college & so many other things to see all within walking distance. there is also a hop on hop off bus pass that is good for two days which makes getting around the city to see things pretty easy.

“Great place to stay!”

The staff were absolutely wonderful--they were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious even by American standards, let alone European ones; very clean and even had bathrobes there for your use. It's about a 20 minute walk to Grafton Street or any of the main attractions, but there is a DART station close by and if you have one of the tour bus tickets, Merrion Square is not so far. I would definitely stay there again if I can make it back to Dublin!

What to pack
Umbrellas and sweaters--even in the summer. It got down to 7 celsius some days in some parts of Ireland, so definitely pack a sweater even if traveling in the summer.

“Just a Ok place”

The staff in the hotel are great and helpful, Very clean place,Only down side is the place is not at the city center and have to depend on taxis most of the time to get in to town and back.

“Graduation holiday”

My parents and grandparents flew to Dublin for my graduation ceremony, and I booked them 3 nights at the Grand Canal Hotel. We couldn't be happier. The service was excellent, the adjacent bar was very convinient and the food served within was also quite good. There was an underground parking garage which was very convinient as we had a rental. The neighbourhood doesn't have much going on except the grand canal theatre a few minutes away, but as my grandparents are elderly, they weren't really interested in hitting the town anyway. All things considered this was a very good hotel, very clean, modern, with free wifi and great staff. The location is good for business travelers and those looking for something slightly outside the core.

Area recommendations
The ballsbridge area is very nice, you can access the core easily and also somewhat removed from the craziness of the core. Anything around the trinity college area. Grafton street is expensive but could be fun. Temple bar and Hardcourt street would be very loud at night, and unless you're young and want to party hard, I would avoid those areas.

“Clean, Quiet, Nearby Train Station”

Excellent value, good service, and well furnished modern rooms. Nearby DART station for easy access to City Centre and coastal towns. Good food in on-site restaurants/pub and also nearby Schoolhouse Hotel Pub. Amusing TV channel with tropical fish and classical music. Best connections with Dublin Airport via AirCoach (drops you off two blocks away) vs AirLink (a much longer walk). Suggested activity if you wake up too early due to jet lag - ride the DART train south for the sunrise along the coast then back north. This local commuter train in clean and safe and opens several hours before any museums/tours even on weekends. They have a one-day unlimited service pass for a reasonable cost.

Comment from the hotel's management
I appreciate your kind review and have passed your comments on to all members of the Grand Canal Hotel team - Thank you! As pointed out the DART station is directly across the street from us and really is easy, convenient way to explore the Greater Dublin area as well as Dublin city centre. Traveling from the airport by Aircoach will drop you off at the Schoolhouse Hotel (Ballsbridge route) and a 2 minute walk will see you to our front door - welcome! Thank you again and I hope to welcome you back to the Grand Canal Hotel on your next visit to Dublin.
