Honestly, hostels are not what they used to be. I of course expected groups of high school groups and college kids traveling around to be staying there, but due to the housing crisis in Dublin, hostels have become a place for the homeless population to reside. The staff tries to avoid that, but there are workarounds, as I’ve been told by some of the homeless residents. In the room, people were smoking out the tiny balcony window/door and all the smoke was coming inside. I was up coughing all night. That is probably more of a unique circumstance, but wanted to share my experience. Besides that, there is a lot of theft and random people sneaking into the hostel, despite there being security. Just a few things to keep in mind depending on the type of person you are. The staff were absolutely wonderful though. Truly understanding and kind. If backpacking around and need a place to crash, of course would still recommend, but just keep your wits about you and be careful where you put your stuff and who is around you at all times.

Never again. They wouldn’t refund me. There were some shady characters so I went across the street and booked a room in the Maldron. When I went back to ask for a refund they said they could cancel the reservation but not refund me. Money hungry because they know their sub par and need all the revenue they can get.

Staff were nice and welcoming. The room was good and clean. There were a lot of things to do in the evening in the area and inside. Would come back. People were respectful and kind.

Lively, a short walk from plenty to do and see, as well as a lovely staff members. I appreciate everyone at reception and the bar/cafe for their patience with me on my first solo trip out of the U.S. Ill be sure to come back to the Generator the next time Im in Ireland. (And I promise i wont have as many misshaps next time)

Overall my stay was enjoyable barring a single issue that was promptly resolved. Another thing that didn’t impact my visit but could potentially be an issue is that their bathroom and shower rooms need some maintenance.

Good rooms, with new and clean beds. Bathroom in the en suite could probably do with a refurb but was ok. Its a lively place and a reasonable walk from all the main areas of Dublin. If you're just looking to get out into the city, either sight seeing or drinking, would certainly recommend this place, given the extortionate price of hotels in Dublin.

No complaints. And happy to discover that the Cobblestone Bar, where i wanted to go for music, was only a couple of blocks away. It seemed more like a hotel than a hostel. Hostels don't usually provide towels. But they do usually have cooking facilities. Not only were there none, no food is allowed in the rooms. This was not a problem for me, but it might be for some people. The music in the restaurant was too loud for me. Generator seems to be geared to young adults. I'm 82.

Great experience! Traveling with family, the Generator was able to accommodate a large group. Rooms were compact but not crowded. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Good places for dining nearby.

april 4 to 9 2023 - dublin was my first solo trip and i had the best time! the generator is within walking distance from the busiest sections of dublin, and also the jameson distillery is right behind it! there are also tram stops less than 5 minutes away if you're wanting to go somewhere further. there were a couple of nights when things got loud in the hallways (from my understanding it was students on a school trip) but it didn't bother me too much. it was also my first hostel stay (bunked in a room with 5 other girls) and i felt very safe. i got what i paid for, and they offered just what i needed. i would go here again, and would also recommend to anyone looking to travel on a budget :)

Fantastic little hostel for a short stay. Friendly staff and quality games. Smoked everyone at shuffleboard. Joseph Mcateer-Docherty absolutely ruined our trip at the end, but it was just a minor blip in our stay.

Hotel rooms in. Terrible condition. Not clean peeling paint moldy bathroom. Plave needs some help bad! Concept is great but just needs to clean up!

Family overnight stay at generator
We used Generator as an over night stay on a mini holiday. The staff are very friendly and helpful and make sure that the hostel is clean and kept in good conditions. The rooms provided everything we needed for that night and it was very comfortable. Throughout the whole hostel there is a very good atmosphere and we had a very good experience and we used use Generator again.

El hostal tiene buena ubicación de las paradas de los buses y varios supermercados cerca. La habitación para 6 estába bien y tenía el baño dentro. Pero no hay cocina ni comedor compartido. No sé puede ingresar comida de afuera, quería calentar la leche para mi bebé y no había un microondas para utilizar, tienes que comprar todo hasta el agua caliente para el té.

This hostel exceeded expectations! It was in a great location, easily accessible, can walk to many of the main points in Dublin. It also has a great bar and lovely activities to interact with other travellers

Although a hostel, it does exactly what it should do. We are a family of 4 plus a dog and were really happy with our room and the facilities are great as well. Would stay again!

As a family with 2 kids aged 11 and 13 we just need a cheap option for a 1 night stay over in dublin. Rooms are very basic and dated. Beds uncomfortable, odd smells everywhere and an uneasy feel. I guess if you are young and travelling its a great option. The bar and social area downstairs is ok often lots going on and food looked nice altho we didnt eat there. Lots of overnight noise so dont expect any sleep. Its based on a square which had lots of high/drunk people loitering 24/7, not pleasant. However staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. Personally i wouldnt go back.

I loved the location that was very convenient to everything (transportation, shopping, food market, the square, etc. The staff were very nice and very helpful. Rooms were clean and beds were quite comfortable. I highly recommend the Generator Dublin.
