“My Dubai recommendation”
Fantastic boutique hotel in traditional Dubai style. Great atmosphere and breakfast, and very well placed for 'old' Dubai. A bargain!
“An oasis in the desert”
This charming guest house was wonderful. Amid the new, ultramodern, spectacular high rises for which Dubai is so reknowned, this place was like an oasis in the desert. Originally part of an early 19th century wealthy merchants compound, the guest house has been restored to the original Arabic character, complete with the quiet courtyards and private roof patios. The breakfasts which were included with the suites were great and service was excellent. The location was perfect for walking tours through the old souks and the historic Creek Side. We would recommend this place for those who like to get a flavour of old Dubai. For us, the large, modern, impersonal hotels , while nice, leave us with a sense that we could be anywhere in the world. This guest house allowed us to experience the old Dubai while still seeing the new and extravagant.
“A Hidden Gem”
My wife and I took a chance and booked the Orient because we wanted to try something smaller and a little more traditional but still with home comforts. The Orient did not fail to deliver. From day 1 we felt relaxed and at home. The staff were very very attentive and nothing was too much bother. Breakfast was delicious (especially the omelettes!) The Guest House location was great, very near the creek and set in quiet arab quarters, quiet except for the call to prayer. It has to be said that the call was not in the least intrusive in fact it added to the overall ambience and atmosphere. The only negative was there was NO Internet access although an hour can be purchased very reasonably, from the mother hotel a short distance away. I have no hesitation recommending the Orient Guest House.
“it was good but lelow my expectation”
the hotel is good, the breakfast was ok, the price was high
“A little gem in a sea of concrete”
Situated in the Bastakiya area - where traditional Arab houses across a whole city block which have been sympathetically renovated to create a peaceful oasis in a sea of concrete. Apart from the architecture, the area has cafe's, restaurants and artshops. The hotel is small and simple, the rooms are no frills but clean, the staff are friendly. A real gem.
“So glad we tried it”
If you're looking for a modern flashy hotel, this is not the place for you. We loved this place. Traditional arab style with all rooms opening out into a courtyard. All rooms are air conditioned and our room was clean. Good selection for continental breakfast. The dining courtyard can get quite warm but it wasn't that bad first thing in the morning. All the staff were welcoming and willing to help in whatever way possible. There is no direct drive up to guest house but the road is only 100 or so yards away. The taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is, despite being on the Dubai hotel guide. Some locals say this is a ploy to earn a bit extra cash. The easiest way is to ask him to take you to their Sister Hotel - Arabian Courtyard Hotel and then ask the doorman to give the taxi driver directions - it is only just 200 yards down the road. They even let the Orient staff know that we were coming and welcomed us off the taxi and brought our luggage in. If you need to, free wireless internet is available and the connection was reliable from our room. The Guest House is well located within easy walking distance of the neighbouring Dubai Museum and to the water taxis to cross over to Deira. Would recommend this place to anyone after an authentic feel experience.
“Charm hotel in Dubai”
The location of this guest house is very, very good, quiet and in the old quarter of Dubai. The staff is very nice, the breakfast can be better with fresh juices and the coffee was better the second day. BUT it was VERY, VERY, VERY DUSTY when I looked under the bed !!!! They must use a vacuum cleaner instead of a broom for the cleaning and shake and vacuum the carpets in the rooms. Yes it's an old house but it must be CLEAN. I will go back again in spite of this.
“Wonderful alternative to the faceless 5 star options”
Extremely well located, for both business and leisure. within a couple of minutes of Dubai Museum, the water ferries, and surrounded by art studio's and cafe's, a relaxed and informal place to stay, room 8 was a little tired and could have benifited from a lick of paint and the linen and pillows could certainly benifit from being replaced but overall having visited Dubai on numerous ocassions and stayed in the popular hotels along the beach and in the city, this is the only place I would certainly want to go back to !
“Great place to search out Dubai culture - less good for business or partying”
This is a great little B&B if you want to find some of the "traditional" culture of Dubai, e.g. the Dubai Museum, local galleries, souks. We really enjoyed it. But it would not be very good for business or for tourists more interested in modern attractions (e.g. malls, clubs, beaches, pleasure parks, etc.).
“Great if you get there!”
Everything about this hotel was great !!! We were very pleased with the service. The only problem is getting there! Taxi drivers don't really seem to know where it is ( a sign on the main road would have helped...) . The location is great and there are lots of things to do around there so I would not mind staying in a villa style room again!
