“Few problems to start when we arrived, after that it was fine, would go back”

We were upgraded to a Villa, our friends asked if they could be upgraded. Taken to the Al Qasr, told our room wasn't ready, shown to a room that was not in good order compared to such a lovely hotel!, called our friends to see where they were, they had been taken to their villa with our suit cases outside, two other people checking in at the same time were given the room next to our friends, we decided to go to our friends villa, when we got there our suit cases had gone, told the villa we were going to have was now not available, told that another one was was not ready, then that we couldn't have that one, shown to a villa away from our friends, decided we didn't want the upgrade asked to go back to the Mina A'Salm, told it was not possible as they were full, we said that this must be impossible as we and our friends had just check in and told about upgrade, so our rooms must still be available, I asked for transport back to the Mina A'Salm, this never arrived so after travelling all night to arrive in Dubai at 7.00 am we were left standing outside all these villas not knowing where we were, we finally sorted our own transport back to the Mina A'Salm, explained to the Manager what had happened, he then sorted our room with an upgrade; all very disappointing when we first arrived, but after that it was a lovely holiday. Please note that we have written to the Manager at the Mina A'Salm since we arrived home, he has been in contact with us and is dealing with this.

“Pricey but worth the money”

Mina Al Salam Sep 2011 (RO) Instantly impressed by the opulence of the reception & the surrounding areas. Welcomed at check in with a drink and a cold towel then shown to ocean view room. Bedroom: huge comfortable bed, luxurious bed linen, large flat screen TV (12 English channels news and movies. Decorated in Arabian style had a small balcony with two chairs and a table. Sofa , coffee table , writing desk and chair. Miini bar (which can be used as a fridge if you shuffle the drinks around) and a kettle with ground coffee and a Cafetière. Bathroom: 2 sinks, walk in shower, a full sized bath sep toilet and bidet. Air con powerful & quiet, hair dryer and safe in troom. Maid and turn down included details of the following day’s activities accompanied by pampering items such as foot spray or body scrub along with a towel sculpture and a full ice bucket. Fresh fruit and water in the room daily. Can use pools at the Al Qasr (by walking or in free Abra boats) & Jumerira Beach (by golf buggy within the hotel grounds) Abras & buggies operate 24 hrs. We booked dinner in the Burj Al Arab (excellent) Pool attendants excellent, laying out your sunbed, delivering complementary ice lollies, orange slices & cold towels & being very quick with drinks Excellent well equipped gym. Expect to pay up to £100 per couple for a modest meal with wine or a couple of beers. Beware of the lunch costs getting away with you too as 3 pints, 2 pina coladas and a pizza was £70 at the pool bar!

Area recommendations

Jumerah Beach is centrally located between the palm and the Dubai Mall and if very close to the mall of the Emirates (MOE) Hotel is approx 15 minute taxi ride from The Mall Of the Emirates (about AED 15) 30 minutes from the Dubai Mall (AED 50) and 40 minutes from the airport (AED 75 to 90) Hotel offers a bus service to MOE and Wild Wadi (guests have complementary access) Next door is Souk Madinat. Designer shops and some selling more traditional gifts. Restaurants and cafe’s (Cinabon, Costa Coffee and Starbucks are all located here). Trendy bars and the Trilogy nightclub. Taxis plentiful from entrance of the hotel and Souk. Open top bus tour departs from the Souk’s main entrance.

“delightful experience in 30 years of travel”

From the arrival at the Mina A Salam to our departure, the staff were there for assistance or guidance. Take the opportunity to use their SIRIUS card for discounts on the numerous restaurants within the resort. Use the lake taxis so you do not overheat when walking. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER and relax and enjoy. Pool side and BEACH towels are provided as well as other amenities on the beach- but we will not spoil- see for yourself. A 30 minute speed boat journey will take you to the Atlantis on The Palm. Brilliant. All watersports are done with sincerity with lifejackets and helmets supplied. The beach also has life guards. Lots to discover. So go and do just that.

Area recommendations

The old Town especially for spices and other goods. Remember to take water as it is very humid. Feel the atmosphere of the Creek. If you do not like being hassled by shopkeepers to "come and see their shop" do NOT go. Otherwise, smile be polite and keep walking. The Mall of Emirates, just to see Ski Dubai. Zara, Lakeland, CK with all luxury brand names. There is a website and I recommend viewing before you go. Just a warning, If paying by card the cashier will ask if you want to pay in sterling. Remember if you do, they could charge their own rate and NOT your banks.

When to go

If it is shopping you are interested in then go when The Dubai Shopping Festival is on. Various websites. Book early. Usually February. As an idea of temperatures, last week in September 2011 41°C-45°C degree. However the sea is betyween 22°C-25°C!! Drink plenty of water!

Getting there

Although we were guided to the JUMERIAH desk at terminal 3 at our arrival- we were bluntly advised that our room (Arabian Deluxe) did not qualify us for a ride on the Hotel shuttle. As I have been to Dubai I remembered the taxis as reasonable. We also arrived before the other quests!

What to pack

Wearing swimming attire for breakfast is ok providing you don't display too much flesh. Shorts, t-shirts, kaftans, wraps etc. You will not feel out of place wearing something more formal as all tastes catered for. Hair dryer is in the room as is a safe. Don't panic ladies if you forget make-up and brands of essentials- these can be sought after in the Pharmacy within the souk at the Mina Al Salam. When shopping in the greet Malls wear something that covers your knees and shoulders.

Outdoors or beach

No words can describe the scene you take in as you walk onto the beach! Wear shoes if you want to keep the soles of your feet just on the soles of your feet. SAND is HOT. Life guards on duty. There was also a Pirates Club for the children.

“Would definitely stay there again”

It was our first time in Dubai and this hotel was in the ideal location to do all the usual siteseeing whilst also spend time relaxing by the pool or on the beach. It has fantastic facilities (huge choice of shops, bars, and restaurants) and the staff are extremely helpful and polite - they cannot do enough for you. Will definitely stay there again (soon hopefully).

“The best hotel”

The hotel is just next to Al Burj Arab hotel. You can have a great view of it. The service in there is reamarkable and all the service person is very nice and very helpful. It connects to a market and has a shuttle boat can take you there. So, after dinner if your wife wants to go there, it's very convinient. Great hotel and great service. What else you want?
