“Good for location but that's about it”

Hotel staff weren't particularly helpful. We arrived in the morning and the room was not ready. We were told the room would be ready by about 11.30am but by 11am we saw other people who arrived after us being called to be shown to their room yet we were stlll sitting there waiting. It was only when we went to the front desk again we were told the room was ready otherwise we still would have been left waiting there! When we left, they didn't even have the courtesy to ask how our say was. There was no hot water in the room and we only found out after the 2nd day into our stay we had to press a button near the bathroom to warm up the water. The staff failed to mention this and I'm sure other people would have had the same problem as would natually expect hot water without having to press any buttons. It was beyond ridiculous for us to call Housekeeping 3 times to request a hairdryer and STILL never recieved it! It was only after we queried this with the front desk we were informed there was a high demand and we would receive one and finally did. The only plus side to this hotel is the location as it is walking distance to Meena Bazaar, Spinneys (Big supermarket) and other eating places such as Burger King, McDonalds, Pizza Hut. Also walking distance to a few ATM's although the apartments have one right outside. For people who like walking, it is also possible to walk to the creek (took us approximately an hour) but only because we took a few wrong turns. Got back quicker.

“Good hotel”

When we arrived we are given a room and it was obvious that people had been smoking in it (although we were assured that all rooms were non smoking). However, it was no trouble for them to move us to another room and on our third attempt we were satisfied. There are several blocks to this hotel and we were in Golden Sands 5 which was conveniently located by a supermarket just across the road. The lady who we spoke to another of the blocks who was responsible for booking excursions etc was extremely helpful and we couldn't fault her.

“Don't book directly”

I previously lived in this region of the world for 20 years so I know my way around Dubai. When I go looking for a Hotel I am not after the glitz that first timers might be. The Golden Sands are no-nonsense. So I have stayed at the Golden Sands a number of times. The staff is helpful, rooms and building clean and overall a good value. The location is good with shopping and entertainment near by, within walking distance. Avoid using the Hotel taxi service as they are expensive and the area is teaming with metered taxi. Best advise is to book through the likes of Expedia and not directly with the Hotel.

“lovely staff”

Really nice staff who will try hard to help you. 24 Hour restaurant which is great and linen/towels changed every day. Nice pool and gym. Only negatives were that the room could just do with a slightly better clean- a bit dusty in parts and the maintenance dept (who are an outside contractor) were useless when the washer dryer in the room didn't work properly (it didn't dry). The reception staff were too nice I didn't want to complain! So overall, I would recommend purely on the basis of the staff alone.

“Golden Sands Hotel Dubai”

Hotel very basic but very well located. It was showing its age but one could not complian for the price. Access the the Bujaman Mall and Spinney's supermarket was a great plus. For the price, the hotel was good value. Please note that there are several Golden Sands Hotels in the vicinity and when confriming a booking it would be handy to specify the number of the Golden Sands Hotel your room is booked. This helps the taxi drivers find the place.

“Great place to get to see Dubai at a reasonable price”

Good location, very clean comfortable self contained unit. Staff very helpful with a very professional and friendly booking agent in foyer to help you book day trips etc, free internet use in business centre, great place.

Very nice place. feels like home with all the services like washing machine, large fridge etc.

“Almost living here”

We have come to Dubai hoping to relocate here and wanted somewhere reasonable to stay for a few weeks whilst jobsearching. This is an excellent long or short term stay. The studio apartments are very comfortable with cooking facilities and comfy lounge area. There is a 15 minute walk to the Metro but most of it is through air conditioned shopping centre. There is a Spinney's supermarket 5 minutes walk away. The roof top pool on GS5 is a very relaxing place to spend some time. I would thoroughly recommend this place. We initially booked for three weeks but are now going to stay more than 2 months here.
