“Good Choice of Hotel”

Excellent standard of service. Only problem was that only part of the hotel swimming complex was open - the small one at the front. What was especially good about this hotel is that it is not high rise and is built round the outside areas. It also has several areas outside for food and drink.

Area recommendations

We have stayed in Diera, Creek, and the Beach areas and much prefer this area. Also just a walk to Dubai Mall and all it has to offer albeit over a extremely busy road but it does have pedestrain crossings.

Dining

We went to the Seafood Buffet in the hotel and the Thai night at their sister hotel Al Buston Rotana out by the airport and they were both excellent. The Seafood buffet was full. If you want to sit outside you will defo need to book.

“Al Murooj Rotana Dubai”

The service in this hotel was exception and many staff called me by name. The room was comfortable both times I stayed there and they were willing to store my luggage while I went on safari. It is very close to the Dubai Mall and the area that has built up around the Burj Khalifa, making it a prime location. Food was very good, especially at the Mexican food restaurant. The only problem I encountered was car back-up at the entrance while the staff struggled to cope with very slow-moving individuals who were checking in. I liked that they were willing to call a city taxi rather than trying to force you into a hotel car (much higher priced). Cost to the airport was about $10.00 (US) or 30 dirhems.

Area recommendations

The Dubai Mall area has just about everything from outstanding restaurants to more than 1200 shops, a souk, an aquarium, a skating rink, the indoor waterfall, the tallest building in the world, and the Dubai fountain. The area is centrally located to go to the Mall of the Emirates, Jumeriah Beach, or Festival City Mall.

What to pack

Packing for Dubai depends on the weather -- December to March are the best months and a light jacket or sweater is useful. (I lived there for 6 years.) Respect for the nationals is shown by following the dress code for women: cover the shoulders (short sleeve T-shirts are great) and at least wear something to the knees. A woman won't get stopped or chastised but will be a focus of derision privately by the nationals. Skirts, blouses, dresses, slacks, knee-length shorts are all appropriate. On the beach at a hotel or in the hotel, anything goes except nudity. Sandals are great and hose are way too hot! Sunblock is essential and hat or umbrella is good for blocking the sun. If you visit a mosque, you will be provided appropriate head scarf and coat (Jumeriah Mosque in Dubai or the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi). Take the best camera you can afford.

Shopping

Shopping is the strong point of Dubai and becoming more so in Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, which I know best, the largest mall is Dubai Mall, followed by Mall of the Emirates, which has the ski slope (fun to watch). I like the Festival City Mall, the Mirdif Mall and Wafi Mall, but they are all different to a degree. Wafi has an upscale section and tends to have fewer visitors. All have good places to eat and people watching is almost a sport in any mall. Of course, any visitor must visit the gold souk and the spice souk on the Diera side of the creek and the Dubai museum and old city on the Bur Dubai side. Crossing by abra is fun. There are so many places to explore in the Bur Dubai area for good quality items to take home. This area also gives the sense of Dubai become it became a boom town. I like the Madinat Jumeriah "souk" which has lovely outdoor restaurants in cooler months. Most malls are now open on Friday, the holy day in the UAE.

“A gem”

Good value for money. A truly 5 star hotel. Our only problem was been given a room on a "smoking floor". This was not what we wanted. There were no other rooms of a similar size available, but despite this, housekeeping did everything possible to remove any residual smoke from our room. The staff were always very friendly and willing to help.

“Excellent for business travel”

Everything was as offered in the deal including the breakfast and free transport from the airport. The staff were proffessional and helpful. We stayed in the Rotana part of the hotel and would recommend this highly. We used the hotel while exhibiting at the World Trade Centre which was a £2 taxi ride away.

Must see

The sail hotel is worth a visit, as it is the only 7 star hotel in the world. You must either be staying at the hotel or have restaurant reservations. The restaurant reservation is definitely the more economical way to experience the hotel.

“Place to be thats close to all!”

Friendly, great view, great place to stay tats close to everything. Take a taxi to go to the burj khalifia thats right across the street pretty much or the armani lounge and the dubai mall thats 5 min ride by taxi. you wont be regret staying at the al murooj!

“Excellent hotel next to Dubai Mall”

Perfect location, right next to the Dubai Mall, Burj Dubai tower. Super friendly staff, excellent breakfast, highest level of service. The only thing that could have been better is the size of the our room. Anyway, I think that the price/ value ratio is great. The hotel is right at the edge of the developing downtown area so do not be suprised if you find a big empty lot, or ongoing construction accross the street.

Area recommendations

I would recommend the exact place of this hotel. The Burj Dubai area. It is a new area, no old buildings, the world's largest mall right there, beach and other places a short an inexpensive cab drive away.

When to go

Not in the summer as it gets extremely hot.

Getting around

Taxis are inexpensive, drivers are friendly and everybody in Dubai speaks good English. Do not fall for a cab driver offering his services in the airport terminal. Walk out to the official taxi stand. Fixed rates, if the meter is not running (never happens with those cabs) the drive was free.

What to pack

An empty suitcase, or actually just buy one there. Excellent shopping, in January everything is on sale

Must see

Remember, the Palm island only looks like a palm from the air, not when you are on it.

Dubai Mall and Mall of Emirates give plenty. High end expensive brands as well as normal, affordable stores.

Dining

Take your loved one to aquarium restaurant of the 7* hotel Burj Al Arab. It was not as expensive as I expected, but a very memorable experience. Remember, there is a dress code
