“perfectly positioned hotel for Dresden”

The Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe is perfectly positioned for exploring the principal sites in restored historical Dresden, being just 75 metres from the Frauenkirche. The staff are most welcoming, helpful and efficient - and have a sense of humour. The rooms are very well laid out with plenty of space and all the facilities you would expect from a 4/5 star hotel. The main dining room has a good atmosphere and serves excellent high end German and French food. My wife and I stayed there during the run-up to Christmas and thrived on the fact that the three best Christmas markets in Dresden were within easy walking distance.

Area recommendations
The Aldstadt on the south side of the Elbe, because most of the significant restored buildings and museums are situated there. Also a boat trip on the Elbe is a must, as you will be able to view old restored Dresden from a different perspective and the three "Elbe Castles"upstream to the east. A visit (easy by train) to Meissen is strongly recommended, both to visit the porcelain factory and the town itself.

“One of Dresden's Finest Hotels.”

The hotel is centrally located near one of Dresden's landmarks. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, roomy and comfortable. The hotel restaurant has lovely patio seating with delicious food.

Within walking distance of the hotel is a lovely shopping square, restuarant/hotel row, and a major shopping mall.

“Charming hotel in great location”

The room was very large with a comfortable bed. Hotel staff promptly fulfilled every request from extra pillows to directions to sights. The location is great as it is on a plaza surrounding a lovely restored church. There were lots of restaurants on the plaza and it was close to all major tourist sights. It has a large number of rooms but has the pleasant feel of a smaller, more intimate hotel.

“The perfect location in historic Dresden”

This hotel is in a perfect location for someone who wants to discover Dresden and it's history. Quality and service of the hotel couldn't be better! Ones the road constuction around this hotel are complete it will be even better to access.

“dresden mini break”

Spent 3 nights at steigenberger hotel de saxe in february2011. It was a lovely hotel in a perfect location.

“A wonderful place to stay”

Simply put, this is the most satisfying hotel I have ever visited. The location right on the Altmarkt is the best in town. Everything (restaurants, pubs, shopping, monuments and museums) are all just a few steps away. The room was quiet, spotless, and well-appointed in every respect. The beautiful sauna facility on the lower level offered a great place to relax after a hectic day of sightseeing. The staff was courteous and helpful at all times. I could not have been more pleased.

Area recommendations
The entire city is worth exploring. We took long walks each day in a different direction. This hotel's central location was the perfect place from which to begin forays into other areas. It's also just a thirty minute trainride to Meissen which offers tours of the world famous porcellan manufacturer (highly recommended, even if, like us, you can't afford to buy any!) and the old part of town offers a glimpse into centuries past.
When to go
Dresden at Christmas is a sight to behold! The Christmas markets, concerts, and festive decorations everywhere could put even the most stubborn of Scrooge's in the holiday spirit. It's all well-done, without being over-done.

“Superb hotel to access the Altmarkt”

We visted Dresden for the Christmas Markets. We booked the Steigenberger because it seemed to be close to the markets. It was not only close, it was in the center of them. The hotel looks over the Christmas Market in the Altmarkt and is easily accessible to many others. It is very close to the tram stations for the east/west and north/south lines. It is also close to the restored Frauenkirche, Zwinger, Opera House and riverboats. There is a fabulous indoor shopping mall within two blocks. This is a superb hotel in a superb city and I would return in a heartbeat.

Area recommendations
Altmarkt. It had a concentration of cultural sites and architectural wonders.
Getting around
Make sure you learn the tram system as soon as possible. You can get anywhere fast and it is inexpensive. It is clean and modern, one of the best I've seen in Europe. The airport has a train station in the lower level and the train takes you to the Neustatdt station, where you can connect to the trams.
Must see
The entire city. This destination doesn't appear on many radars but the city is phenomenal. We visited for the Christmas Markets and will return in the summer. Also, the Transparent Factory is a must see for fans of technology.

“"Perfect Location"”

The Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe is perfectly located for exploring the historic sites in Dresden. All major museums, churches and the famous Semper Opera are within less than seven minutes walk. All questions and requests were promptly and cheerfully answered. I look forward to staying here again.

Area recommendations
The historic area including the Zwinger museum, Semper Opera and Fraukirche are perfect for at least 3 days of sightseeing. The reconstructed historic buildings are beautiful, the art is exceptional, and the festive atmosphere of the plaza nad promenades kept me smiling.
Must see
The Green Vaults are full of treasures. Get your ticket for the Old Green Vault early in the day or the day before. My ticket was for an hour and a half before closing, and when I arrived 20 minutes early, I was ushered right in. A perfect time of day as the crowds diminished, and I stayed right up to closing time.
Events and shows
The Semper Opera is a treat for music lovers. Check for tickets as soon as you get into Dresden. My hotel concierge took care of securing a ticket for me. The acoustics are so good that there is no need to buy the most expensive tickets. The center of the upper rings provide fine viewing and listening.

“Great location and quality”

My wife and I had lowest category, but the room was large and clean, interior was modern. The bath was nice as well. Best is location in the center of Dresden almost right beside the famous FRAUENKIRCHE. Other sightseeings as well as the shopping area are no more than 5...10min walk. Breakfast buffet was very good but Euro 21.-/Person. Garage has to be paid (also around Euro 16.-) which is a public garage with direct entrance to the hotel. I can recommend it - it is surely the best hotel in this area.
