I booked and paid through Expedia, but in the hotel at first they were trying to charge a difference between the rate paid and the rate considered for this day by the hotel. After I explain that I had paid in advance and I had not more to pay, the point was understood.
The other point is that the hotel has different sides with differents lebel of room. During the booking is not able to know which tipe of room is it. There is not pictures...
"Spacious chalets with breathtaking mountain views"
Great family vacation in the Drakensberg mountains. Many well marked trails to hike, entertainment programme for the kids and friendly staff. The shop is a bit on the expensive side and the waffles are bad, but other than that I will recommend Alpine Heath with a smile.

After 11 kms of very very rough public unmetalled road you reach a rough track to the Retreat. It is wonderfully situated on the edge of a plateau giving it uninterrupted views of the whole of the central and north Drakensberg range. Stunning.
The grounds are extensive so you can stay home and hike for miles in completely unspoiled countryside. The Retreat has a swimming pool, billiard room and spacious lounges and communal areas. There are extensive lawns, free-roaming horses It is fabulous really.
We stayed for three nights, braving the road to do some daytime touring. Breakfasts were excellent. Dinners were freshly cooked and very good indeed. Staff were 100% helpful. There was a well-stocked trust bar. And wifi worked well in hotspot areas, not in your room.
"This is a beautiful hotel in a dramatic location."
We spent 3 days and nights in Cathedral Peak and could have doubled our time there and still not have been bored. The walking is amazing to suit all ages. In addition there is leisure facilities at the hotel including golf swimming mini golf and a games room. The food while buffet service for all but lunch is excellent with a huge variety of dishes.
We loved this place.
We stayed 2 nights at Sani pass hotel. The food was good but it was same menu both nights and not much choice. We arranged our trip up the Sani pass with the hotel, the guide we had was very informative and friendly which made the trip enjoyable.
