"Hotel is very convenient to get to/from IAD Dulles"
The hotel is very convenient to get to/from IAD (Dulles airport) via the $5 bus that takes you from the airport to the subway & that subway line takes you directly to the stop closest to the hotel - so that was convenient ($11 total at rush hour compared to an $80 taxi ride). The only trouble I had was the TV at the hotel doesn't work during the rain - no TV throughout the entire hotel on a stormy night & I was traveling alone, so I wanted to watch some TV before bed time. The next night it wasn't raining, so I turned on the TV & I got reception for about 20 minutes & then it suddenly lost the connection & I gave up - so if you are traveling alone or have kids & you want to watch TV - don't count on it at this hotel. Otherwise everything was nice. The pool looked amazing & I was kicking myself for forgetting my swim suit! I liked the neighborhood/location - walkable to Whole Foods which was convenient.
My cousin and I got to the hotel early and didn't think we would be able to check in before the time.
However, the clerk told us our room was ready and that we would be able to check in. They were just the friendliest group all together of employees.
Check in was remarkably smooth and so was check out. The hotel was close to everything in Downtown DC. I would definitely stay there again.
One mile walk to Mall or bus down 14th. Clean with helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast room very comfortable with basic Comfort Inn buffet. Always well maintained considering number of guests. Room very small with 2 double beds and single sleeper. Staff provided us with list of reasonably priced restaurants within afew blocks of the hotel. The kids and adults enjoyed them all especially El Rinconcito Cafe.
Loews Madison is a terrific hotel for both business and leisure travel. The central location, comfortable rooms and helpful staff made our weekend stay very enjoyable. Only knock is the parking. Outrageous at $50 overnight.
There is a $15 plus tax per night "Hotel Fee" that is not disclosed before one has to commit sight unseen on Expedia in the hidden hotel name option. Bit of a bait and switch. I complained on arrival and got wifi and a Keurig machine thrown in. But great rooms and still good value.
Fun atmosphere but a little run down. The staff was nice and helpful. I was not happy that the shampoo and conditioner and body wash were in refillable containers in the shower instead of individual samples.
The hotel is very close to Foggy Bottom metro station. It is clean albeit a little on the older side but nothing that interupts the experience. The cost is fairly good. Our room had a kitchen with all the required cuttlery, oven, pans, etc. which for us with a baby was easy. The pool is exactly what is needed for a hot day. And in general the free wifi (easy access, free printing, always worked wifi regardless of where in the hotel you are, etc) and the awesome service made the experience that much more enjoyable. Fully recommend the stay here.
Pocket Guide: Washington Downtown Washington D.C. Hotels
Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.
