The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's right in the heart of San Francisco and there were so many places we could visit by walking from here. We stayed during Black Friday time so it was great to pay a few visits to Macy's and the shops around and immediately able to return to the hotel to drop off our purchases. Service was also excellent, there were many receptionists during our 3-day stay and all of them were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was ok, a little small with a view of a brick wall, but totally quiet and completely private. Breakfast was good but we wished there were more choices. The shuttle service to airport was smooth and well worth the price.
The hotel is an older style building that has been renovated and updated. The front desk staff we're incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout my entire stay (1 week). The room could best be described as what you would expect when you go to visit a close relative - bed/bathroom/closet. The room was very clean and appointed with a desk and chair, device charging station, a comfy stuffed chair next to a window, a good size closet with ironing board and iron, in-room safe, dresser, and big TV.
The bathroom includes a shower/tub combo with excellent quality toiletries and was very clean on check-in.
The hotel is located on the edge of the Tenderloin neighborhood which is in a very urban area and can feel a little sketchy at times. I walked in the evening without being hassled, but was usually in my room by 10pm, or took an uber to the hotel if I was going to be later. There is access to the hotel entrances by room key card if you're going to be later than midnight. Morning walks were quiet and I usually passed a few professionals walking to work.
I can't stress this enough - If you're not used to continuous city noise (sirens, city vehicles, people yelling/shouting/laughing loudly) this is probably not the place for you to stay. If these noises help lull you to sleep, then you'll have no issues.
Special shout out to Theo at the front desk who helped me with my stay. He also runs the nightly wine tasting and fills in as the entertainment some nights.
First time at the Palomar and we would definitely come back. The room was spacious (two queen beds) and very clean. Nice decor and fully set up with extras, like shampoo, hair dryer and robes in the closet. We were on the 8th floor and had no issues with noise. Close to shopping, Starbucks, restaurants, movie theatre, etc. Parked the car and walked or taxied everywhere. We didn't get a chance to try out the restaurant/bar, but it looked great. Overall, a great experience.
Great room! Very clean and tidy. Built for two. Bed was a bit hard but everything else outweighed that. Convenient location. Across from parking structure. The Staff was great. The old style atmosphere was reminiscent of an era gone by. The Bar & Grill adjacent the lobby was excellent:opens at 6 a.m. closes late. I have stayed in other Hotels in San Francisco for more and got less for the price. I'll stick with Pickwick from now on!
I want my own hotel some day, I'm a Chef in the business, I have had the privilege of traveling all over the world and stayed at some of the best! I was alone in San Francisco at the end of a fantastic holiday with my friends on the beautiful west coast, and I have to say the W hotel was by far the best stop on my journey. I'm taking decorating tips from the beautiful room. I had a great day on the piers and a fantastic facial at the hotel. To top it all off I had the ultimate Californian experience with an earth quake at 3am in the morning! Great people beautiful hotel, I stayed at the Palace the night before, it reminded me of " the shining" no mini bar unless you are in a suite! hate that... went down to the bar for the signature cocktail it was terrible and the staff treated me like a shoplifting teenager.
So I'm going to be in New York on the 5th to the 11th of January, couldn't convince my friend to spend the little bit more to stay with you, but I will try and make it a spot to stop by and enjoy the Bliss Spa.
Thank you, Lisa McCullough.
