We have stayed at Hotel Morales for at least 8 years. It is better each time. Staff is always helpful the Bell men are wonderful and the rich interior design can't be beat. Close to the historical buildings and cathedrals and within walking district to the market. I love this place.
I fell in love with this hotel!!! The staff educated us on the history of this hotel and what part it took in the War between the Church, and the Government of Mexico. We learned a lot from the staff at this wonderful hotel. The staff is Top Notch!!! We were taken care of by the staff without any issues...they provided superb service. No request was too much or out of the question. Oh, before I forget...the coffee lovers will love this place coffee! :) There's no need to seek any coffee shop with the awesome coffee they serve. I highly recommend the "Americano"!!! And the food, the food is good too...my wife, and I were impressed. We just didn't have the need to leave to eat dinner...or breakfast.
I highly recommend this hotel to all of the couples that seek a romantic getaway. ;)

"No complaints--totally satisfied with De Mendoza"
I needed a place near the Dellogado Theatre, and this hotel couldn't have been more convenient--right across the street. Check-in was quick, the room was clean, the a/c worked, the water was hot, and the bed as comfortable. What else could one need for one night! I can't comment on the food because I didn't get the opportunity to eat there.
From the moment we walked in and until we left, the staff were fantastic. The location, amenities cleanliness and price are hard to match.
Although minor my only "complaint/suggestion" would be the blinds don't block out all of the light and the toilet backed up twice with very little paper, but they arrived very quickly to remedy.
Lastly, the elevator broke down two or three times during the weekend, but was fixed within a couple hours each time. Still inconvienient.
All in all, I would stay here the next time I'm in Guadalajara.
excellent staff...above and beyond (especially Luis)
decent standard room size, the master was amazing
their breakfast is delicious!
it is located walking distance to touristic attractions you just have to walk through the not so pleasant part of town
and honestly we did in fact witness a robbery while walking to a taco stand
simply the hotel and its staff is excellent not the area
we even booked the tours with them...opting for their van tequila tour instead of the train one and we do not regret that decision (Mateo was our guide, super fun guy)
Loved everything except that there is a night club on the left side of hotel. Friday & Saturday night loud music did not stop till around 5 am. If u choose this hotel request room on the right side otherwise you won't b able to sleep. .
Portobello Hotel has a great location, you can walk to Chapultepec or to downtown which is one of the hottest spots in the city. Lopez Cotilla is also a block away, full of trendy restaurants. The tren ligero (metro) is just steps away from the hotel entrance... I lived in Guadalajara all my life and this is a great area. The hotel is spotless, it's fairly new so everything is in great condition. If you like silence, ask for a room not facing the street, busy avenues...
Our first choice, Hotel Morales, was not available but we wanted to stay in the same area, so decided to try Hotel Santiago del Compostela. We booked through Expedia from another hotel in another city and I read the reviews. I was nervous about check-in as I didn't have a printed copy of our reservation and previous guests seemed to have had difficulties, especially with an "older" gentleman at check-in. We got to the hotel and an "older" gentleman was at the desk. At first he couldn't find our reservation and asked how I booked. When I said Expedia, he started to say he didn't have it, then said the lady who handles Expedia reservations wasn't there at the moment. I thought this was not going to be a good thing, then he called over a bellboy, and gave him two sets of keys. He told the bellboy to take us upstairs and let us choose which room we would like! The bellboy showed us both rooms and we chose a large room with 2 double beds and a balcony overlooking a courtyard. It was lovely. The room was huge, clean, quiet. We couldn't have been happier. The only down side was a septic smell from the bathroom, but we kept the bathroom door closed and it was not a problem.

Home to numerous colonial buildings, museums, parks, theaters, and churches, the city is also the birthplace of mariachi music and tequila. Attractions include Mercado Libertad, said to be the largest indoor market in Latin America, and the resplendent Teatro Degollado, which opened in 1866.
