“nice hotel close to town and seafront”
A freind and I went to visit other freinds for a 30th birthday. We wanted somewhere close to town which this hotel was and one of a decent standered. The staff were polite helpful and very freindly the hotel interior is well decorated we had a twin room with a sea side view this was as should be. The room was everything we needed the bath did have a few marks/corrosion on it but was clean and this hotel is only a 3 star so to be expected. The shower temperature range was good and the bathroom large. My only down side would be the beds were quite hard so I think I prob wouldn't stay for.more than a few days personally, also we found the room very hot at night but the Windows do open so this can be compensated for. The beachfront is beautiful and just outside.town is a ten-15min walk. The breakfast was plentiful buffet style with a great choice all in all a lovely hotel. I must add as no where did it tell us but.check in is from 1430. We arrived early and were lucky as our room was already ready we were then able to check in early. Just something to be aware of as we couldn't find this information.elsewhere.
“Fantastic stay”
I booked this hotel the day before arrival and it was exceptional value paying just uder £40pp. The hotel is welcoming and the staff are very friendly. Our room was clean and tidy, the only thing i would say is the beds are a little hard, breakfast is second to none with a huge choice of continental and english buffet. The Cumberlland is right on the front and yet only a 5 minute walk from the lively town centre. Book this hotel if you get chance, you wont regret it
“Wonderful Hotel. Cannot wait to go back.”
Food was excellent in both restaurants. Staff were helpful and courteous. We upgraded to a sea view room which was nice, Very spacious. Excellent mid week break and we would recommend this hotel.
“Would definately return”
The Hotel was fine and very Stylish - Loved the art deco. Pool area was great but a little crowded with some from outside the Hotel - Parking a bit restricted but with the facility to park at the Suncliff we managed Breakfest was excellent and dinner Ok at the special rate for residents.
“excellent value”
Excellent value and location staff very friendly and helpful
“Not impressed”
Would not recommend this hotel. The room was cheap, so arrived with the expectation of basic amenities. However, a cheap room does not excuse poor cleanliness. Coffee cups still had stains from previous occupants, and when I went to have a shower, discovered pubic hair around the bath. Nasty!
“Well, not quite Art Deco”
They try to be but they are not really there. The staff in the bar and restaurant need to get their programs straight...in 1 you need to present your room key, in another you need to present this silly little piece of paper saying you are a hotel guest. I had to explain basic drinks to them (bourbon and ginger ale)..the rooms are fine...small but comfortable..the towels are thin and they put out few. The food was okay...far from great.
“Art-Deco Grandeur on the Ground Floor Only”
This is my second time of visiting this hotel. The first was for a conference and so I was hardly in the place. The second was for a week of holiday so I spent much more time in the hotel. The ground floor was very grand but very dark. The subsequent floors were dingy and in need of redecoration. The room we had was small and very clean but over-looked the car park and the bins which were emptied very early in the morning. The wiring hanging out of the fire-alarm was capped by the second day we were at the hotel, likewise the hydraulic door stop outside our bedroom was repaired after we had complained. The breakfast was fine. Trying to buy a small glass of wine in the bar was problematical as apparently they don't have small glasses only large ones at six pounds. So much for the NHS safe drinking policies! I also felt that the hotel guests were second class citizens compared with the guests at many functions which were taking place and we were not aloud to use the facilities for which we had paid. All in all a disappointment, but the situation on the East Cliff is just perfect, so it is a balancing act of what is available for the price.
“Would not go back.....”
Upon arrival it is as though you are on the set of Poirot... and are waiting for David Suchet to wander round the corner. Unfortunately it is even more like a film set when you discover the walls of the hotel are paper thin, and at night you are woken up listening to people return to their rooms, and again early morning when people begin to go to breakfast. Not somewhere to stay if you want to relax. Location, great. Appearance, great. But overall a real disappointment and not worth the money when there are so many other hotels locally.
