Looking for Quality

Posted 25-May-2015
Pros: it's location and stature
Cons: the food could have more flavour. I don't like white sliced bread in my toaster for breakfast.
Location: everything is close by; I was there to play a tennis tournament so it was handy.
Dinner was pretty ordinary, I would not select it as a place to eat if it was not a bank holiday and everything was booked up. the bed was really hard and uncomfortable in the West Wing. breakfast croissants were as solid and hard as a scone; even M&S do better ones. however the staff are pleasant enough.

High expectations

Posted 14-May-2015
Pros: Close location to the beach and nearby restaurants. Beautiful gardens and pleasing hotel facilities to relax although we didn't get to experience them
Cons: Ensure guests advanced requests are met, consider those staying, so as to not place a young family in a room facing the front of the hotel/ noise.
Location: Perfect and close to the beach as described, restaurants and parking too, so time to relax in the hotel or it's grounds as well as the sea front.
Despite requesting a travel cot be placed in our room the day the before, we had to ask for this again as it wasn't there, and the quality of it was so poor our baby had to sleep in our bed. The room and mattress size was excellent, staff very friendly and pleasing, but the noise from other guests and outside the front of the hotel (where we were placed) made for a very disturbed night. We wouldn't have said we got value for money on this visit and will not be coming back despite the perfect location close to the beach and high reviews read prior to choosing/ booking.

Don't judge a book by it's cover!

Posted 07-May-2015
Pros: It's appearance from the outside
Cons: Everything on the inside. The staff did not speak good English and did not seem to know what they were doing. Interior dated, room very cold.
Location: Gorgeous location with great shopping, restaurants, nightlife and beach very nearby, highly recommend Bournemouth, just not this Hotel!
Looked like a really lovely Hotel, very grand from the outside. Inside was like a film set from the 70s, some parts of the hotel were very grand although old fashioned. We had to walk miles to our room, which was out on a wing. We got lost countless number of times. Our wing was obviously the budget section of the Hotel. The room itself was very basic, the bathroom was very cold and we ended up having to sleep fully clothed as the one radiator turned off at 11pm, just as we were going out for the evening. We chose the Hotel partly because of it's impressive facilities but we would have had to pay to use any of them and had to pay a fortune for valet parking when we found a much cheaper long stay just up the road. The next morning we dropped our bags off at the car and left it at the Hotel for a couple of hours (which was still much less than the advertised 24 hours we paid for but were told we weren't entitled to) and we could not believe the state of the Parking area. All in all a disastrous stay at what looked to be, but disappointingly wasn't, a luxurious retreat. Recommend a generic budget hotel like a premier inn instead!

Extra charges for everything, including curtains!

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: Great location, clean.
Cons: Stop charging for all the little extras. I felt like you were trying to be the Easyjet of the hotel world.
Hotel was in a great location, and was certainly pleasant enough. Rooms were clean and the amenities were all there. The major disappointment for me was all the extra charges. Want to park your car: £20. Want to swim in the pool: £4. Want a towel to dry yourself with after the swim: another £1. Etc. The most unforgivable one for me though was for curtains! We were initially allocated a room with a skylight instead of a window - no problem apart from the fact that it had no blind or curtain. Not great if you're a light sleeper and it's summer, super not great if your son needs to go to bed at 7pm. I went down to reception to ask about alternatives and was told that the only rooms left with curtains would require me to pay an extra £30. Needless to say I was unimpressed. I'm sure that I could find details of all these extra charges on their website, but to be honest I never considered that basic amenities such as parking, the pool, or curtains would not be included in the room rate.

Comfortable hotel, perfect for a one or two night

Posted 17-Apr-2015
Pros: The room was good and had a reasonable view over the sea.
Cons: Restaurant staff training, and cleaner public areas.
Location: Bournemouth has become a rather "kiss me quick" resort, so there are the usual amusements one would expect.
Reception staff were friendly and efficient; room was spacious, clean and comfortable; and the hotel is very close to the beach and pier. The hotel charges £20 per 24 hours for their own car park (valet parking) but the staff explain that the public car park next door only costs £12:50 per night. Breakfast was help-yourself buffet style and was perfectly adequate (lots of choice). Dinner is also available - again help yourself buffet style - but cheap. Restaurant staff need more training - it was difficult to get their attention, and we felt that restaurant and bar areas already looked like they had experienced a hard season - yet this was only April (stained chair covers and carpets etc). Not sure the hotel knows what customer set they are aiming at - is it the cheap mass-catering end or the more expensive, select end? they seem to have fallen between the two.
