Comfortable hotel, perfect for a one or two night

Pros: The room was good and had a reasonable view over the sea.
Cons: Restaurant staff training, and cleaner public areas.
Location: Bournemouth has become a rather "kiss me quick" resort, so there are the usual amusements one would expect.
Reception staff were friendly and efficient; room was spacious, clean and comfortable; and the hotel is very close to the beach and pier. The hotel charges £20 per 24 hours for their own car park (valet parking) but the staff explain that the public car park next door only costs £12:50 per night. Breakfast was help-yourself buffet style and was perfectly adequate (lots of choice). Dinner is also available - again help yourself buffet style - but cheap. Restaurant staff need more training - it was difficult to get their attention, and we felt that restaurant and bar areas already looked like they had experienced a hard season - yet this was only April (stained chair covers and carpets etc). Not sure the hotel knows what customer set they are aiming at - is it the cheap mass-catering end or the more expensive, select end? they seem to have fallen between the two.

Good location, hotel not as good as used to be

Pros: Location is good if you want something close to the beach and you are just using the hotel as a place to sleep and not as somewhere to enjoy.
Cons: Customer service, facility for disable people (why no hand rail at the entrance?), no room service and poor refreshments etc in rooms

Hotel has changed hands since my previous stay and you just have the feeling that the overall level of service isn't what it was. From the building, you might expect four / five star service ... but it's only two star now. The check in process wasn't smooth or welcoming - person on desk seemed more interested in getting money from me up front than making sure I was happy first. On check out, I had a large bill outstanding (had been there for a few days and had refused to pay for everything up front on check in)... 'Erm .... it says here that you owe us rather a lot ... ' Left with the feeling of being a customer but not a guest.

Very disappointing!

We booked on line and paid at their hotel on arrival. Unfortunately the room was a size of a box room with a 4ft bed and hardly any room to manoeuvre. I went back to reception and asked to cancel by booking and for a full refund. Thankfully the manager changed our room but was disappointed with them overall since I didn't expect the hassle we had to go through on arrival.

Fab location but faded glory

Royal it isn't, but the spa is pleasant enough and the location is great, within easy walking reach of the beach and town centre. Our room was a good size, and the furnishings of reasonable quality. Sadly, we were sub basement with little daylight, and views of drainpipes. Once we had emptied the small wardrobe of the ironing board and spare linen, there was just about room for our clothes. The bathroom was spacious but with a weird non slip, super dirt attracting floor. Breakfast OK if you hit the buffet before the eggs go rubbery. In general, the staff are great, but cogs in the machine of a hotel chain that invests little in maximising the charm that this historic hotel could muster.

excellent position

Pros: Close to pavillion theatre and beach
Cons: Needs updating
We went to see a show at the pavillion which is quite literally over the road, so for us this hotel was ideally suited although it's looking a little dated. We didn't eat at the hotel but the dining looked resonably priced and good choice. If your looking for a hotel near the town and beach you won't go wrong but don't expect 5*

Girls weekend away

Looking for a lsat minute weekend away hotel was brilliant had a standard double and a massive corner double. Used spa facilities which were good plus breakfast. As we came back ;late from a noght out hotel staff very helpfull with teh local pizza delivery. Planning our return trip already

found out our double room Was made from a staff room once upon a time. toilet seat broken, kettle had to be put on floor for socket access, telephone did not work ,bathroom floor very grimey toilet and bath plumbing ridicuosly loud It was the worst stay anywhere i have experienced,and i have been in the hospitality trade for over 35 years Spoke to Mr Woo duty manager put us into another room no better

Pros: Location, but even that was not worth the money !
Cons: Apart from closing off some inhabital rooms, they should not charge to swim in their pool, and the price for parking was outrageous.
Big mistake to book this hotel, Hopefully Bournemouth will be building some new hotels and will raise the standard..... Security could also be an issue, and very noisy late into the early hours with some of the other guests.

A tired hotel in need of TLC

The hotel , although somewhat in need of a makeover, was a lovely building. The customer service was unfortunately almost non existent! Staff were abrupt, dismissive and even arguing in front of guests. A very poor stay.
