We've been to the Old Castle on previous trips to Weymouth and it was always OK but the new owners, Martin and Diane have spent a lot of time doing the place up.
On entering the building, the first thing you notice is that the Thai restaurant is gone and the area is now used as a breakfast area and on entering the bar, it's been refurbished too. The bedrooms have also had a revamp and the bunk beds have been removed from some of the rooms, creating a feeling of spaciousness in the rooms. They've also been decorated too. The beer garden has also had an overall, though I don't think the owners can take credit for the sunshine that we had when staying there. The next major difference was discovered the following morning. The small buffet breakfasts have gone and been replaced with a choice to suit most appetites, so if you want a buffet, you can have it, right up to a large cooked breakfast.
The location of the hotel is also ideal, as it's only 15 to 20 minutes walk from town, so close enough to be handy, yet far enough away, to avoid the noise. If you don't feel like walking, there's a bus stop at the top of the road.. The hotel is also next to the Rodwell trail, so both Chesil beach and Portland are a walk away.
Will be back again
