“Disappointing”

The staff were nice, but the overall feel of the hotel was one of slight disrepair. The high level of maintenance that one would expect of a four-star hotel was not evident. The paintwork was crumbling in places - windowsills, bathroom. And the taps and shower heads didnt seem in acceptable working order - some limescale and rust in pipes. The situation was not terrible, but I felt let down by a general lack of attention to detail. Such as my bed not being made to a quality standard. Lovely views, however, from deluxe rooms. Excellent location, too. Housekeeping must be improved.

I am astonished that this can claim to be a 4 star hotel. The welcome at reception was fine and the main corridor was clean and tidy but the rooms are drab and the beds uncomfortable. The television has 5 or six channels only and the TV's must be 10 years old at least. There was no alarm clock or radio by the bed, no mini bar and for the 2 days we stayed they had no ice in the bar for drinks. Surely if the ice making machinery is broken they should arrange to get ice delivered. The pool area is showing its age and no staff came around to offer any refreshments at the pool side. Whilst the breakfast fare was good the dining room set up is very tight and getting past other tables is not easy. What a shame. The Carlton could be a very good hotel but our experience was very dis-appointing. The photographs on their web-page flatter it. A positive is access to Bournemouth is easy and the car park is very convenient.
