“Excellent staff”

The hotel staff were excellent, upgrading us for a problem that wasn't of their making. Our room was excellent and despite being on a main street, the hotel was very quiet during the night. Breakfast was very good and served very quickly.

This Wessex Royale is an old hotel,well situated in the high street of Dorchester. The staff were friendly. We appreciated the complimentary newspaper and the bottled water with our hospitality tray. The waiting staff were well organised and we were not kept waiting even though the hotel was full on one of the nights we were there

“Good value, poor parking”

Good value, comfortable hotel. Cooked breakfast was good, room was fine and staff friendly and helpful. It's an old building and the public rooms are not that exciting but for the price it was perfectly acceptable. They only have a small car park at the back of the hotel so you'll likely to have to park at the public car park 2 minutes walk away. A bit inconvenient but could be worse.

“Nice hotel,great location”

The hotel is in a great location at the top end of the High Street, with plenty of good pubs and restaurants within a 10 minute stroll. It is child friendly and an added bonus was that there is a kiddies playground in a park less than a 5 minute walk away. Other reviewers commented on the limited hotel parking but I didn`t find it a problem getting a space despite being there at peak season. Minor quibbles are the noisiness of the floorboards (comes with being an old hotel I guess) and the fact that the room was fairly stuffy despite having the window open all night (although we were staying in August the outside daytime temperature was only in the low 20s). The breakfast was excellent,with the hot items being freshly cooked to order. We didn`t try eating in the hotel at lunch or dinner so I can`t comment on that. Dorchester has various tourist attractions (e.g. several museums) and the famous Jurassic Coast and Chesil Beach is only a few miles away.
