We stayed here for two weeks for our tenth anniversary and received friendly and helpful service at all times. The restaurant was excellent and the beach was one of the top four in the area. Our pool lounging was relatively low key and quiet with plenty of shade available and a variety of pools to chose from. We had a fantastic luau experience and the view from our room was exceptional. There were lots of fun activities and restaurants in the area as well. We look forward to our return.
Wonderful place off the beaten path. Too get there you drive a one lane road though a rain forest like gulch. Although, the house is off the grid, you are not roughing it. They just use solar energy. I only stayed one night but if I stay on the Hilo side again for 1 day or a week, this is the first place I'll consider. A terror value. The breakfast is good, too!

A beautiful hotel resort right on the beach with friendly staff. The rooms were spacious, clean and little details were well thought. The beach was a great place to snorkel. The nearby beach club, 10 mins walk along the beach, or a free shuttle ride, was a better snorkeling place with some colorful corals. The towels, paddle boards for the kids, snorkel gear were all free. The beach visits ended with a visit to the hot tub, then over to the bar for some Mai Tais. My wife spent an evening at one of the hammocks on the beach.
We also took a bike (free ride in the evening around the beautiful golf course. Don't skip and the historic site hike next to the hotel. The short 10 min hike is next to a lava tube (collapsed) and We could also get into a cave where pre-historic family lived.
Breakfast was good but pricey, but so are other hotels around here. We mostly ate out at the Waikoloa village or the mall area. Overall, we had no complaints with the place and were sad to leave after 4 days.
This is picture perfect. The lavish landscaping is amazing. The gigantic pool is refreshing with plenty of lounge chairs and never crowded... Must try a poolside MI tai!! We swam with a couple giant turtles in the private lagoon. We'll come back to this heaven on earth!!!
I love the Mauna Kea! No place like it in the world. It is so understated and not flashy. Just lovely old style Hawaii. Don't ever change too much MK because what makes you special is your tradition. Thank you! We will be back year after year because you make us relaxed and happy. Mahalo!
