“Perfect location”

The hotel is right in the centre of town, there is a public carpark within a 3 minute walk of the hotel which was very cheap for us (sat night / sun morning) The breakfast was very basic and a very small eating area with no high chairs. but value for money as our breakfast was included in our room rate so no complaints. Spoke good English and were very friendly. Recomended.

Area recommendations
We used this as an overnight stop traveling from south of france back to the UK but Dijon looks lovely (a lot of roadworks) and we will go back for a city break soon to have a good look around.

“Nice place, but really uncomfortable beds.”

Most things about this hotel were fine, with the exception of the beds, which were among the worst that I have experienced in several dozen hotel stays.

“A very disapponting hotel”

A really poor hotel. This is more like a student hostel than a family friendly hotel. We stayed in the family flat which was up two flights of narrow spiral stairs with no lift. The children commented on the musty smell of the room and the beds were 4 narrow single beds in a row made with scratchy blankets and worn out pillows (no extras available). Toilet cistern kept filling up and ovrflowing, the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall and the toilet seat was not fixed properly. The fire safety instruction was to get attention from the window which was at head height and overlooked a private courtyard. Rooms have kitchens but no visble smoke alarms and smoking is also allowed in rooms. No tea or coffee in the room. Breakfast was a shambles. Minimal food for a large number of people and options included hard (very hard) boiled eggs ad a bowl of chopped bacon floating in fatty liquid. We had one pain au chocolat and a piece of dried baguette between 4 of us. Milk, orange juice and water all empty. A very disappointing night's stay - glad it was onl one night. Dijon is beautful - it was just a shame that our final night of our holiday was spoilt by such a shabby hotel.

“Enjoy Dijon downtown!”

Excellent. Large room, North American standard, quiet. Just leave the car at public parking Grangier and enjoy walking downtown Dijon. We were with 2 of our grandchildren and each one had her own bed. A good place for families (no sofa and other bla-bla-bla bed). Access to the hotel by car can be a little tricky: come via Place Bossuet, leave the luggage at the hotel (park half on the sidewalk!) and leave the car at parking Place Grangier (close, cheap and secure). It's worthwhile to try. We stayed last year at Holiday Inn at La Toison d'or. We will return to Hotel Residence City Loft. Have a safe trip!

“Lovely city; pity about the hotel.”

This hotel was quite a shock. Rated 3 stars, it was more like a student hostel, with 3 camp-style, sagging beds when I'd booked a double bed, and a room that was only cleaned on the second morning. The carpet was badly stained. The TV picture was unwatchable and there was no English-language channel anyway. Two of the young staff were very helpful and the location was great.

Area recommendations
The old town in Dijon is enchanting, with its winding, cobbled streets and mediaeval half-timbered buildings, which haven't been painted in lollipop colours as in Colmar or Strasbourg, but have been left to age gracefully. There are a number of elegant and impressive buildings of later periods and styles. Iron gates and balconies, creepers draped prettily over stone walls, a glimpse of handsome gardens, charming window-box flowers - all combine to create an impression of graciousness and style in a city with character. The old town also contains some very good brasseries, intriguing antique shops, magnificent churches and, of course, the wonderful collection in the Musee des Beaux Arts. The local people always appreciate a traveller's attempts to speak French and respond to courtesy with warmth and grace.
Getting there
Dijon is a comfortable TGV ride from Paris.
Getting around
Dijon is well served by buses but I found no need to take them as the city and the old town are perfectly accessible by foot.
Must see
The old town is the main area to attract tourists. It's quite compact and very easy to amble around. Take it all in: the cobbled lanes, the mediaeval half-timbered buildings, the Palais des Ducs, the Musee des Beaux Arts, the covered market, the churches, the elegant Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century buildings. Go to the tourist office for the 'little owl' brochure which guides you through the old town following 'Les Chouettes', the little brass owls embedded in the footpaths. In the main shopping area visit the Maille shop for Dijon mustard and the cake shops for the local specialities. Gallerie la Fayette has a branch there also.

“Access Problem - Tired Accomodation - A Student Hostel”

Access by car extremely difficult - in a restricted area. Parking at hotel not possible and you will be directed to a large underground car park some distance away. Tired room decoration. Hall full of American students which really set the tone - This is a Student Hostel, not a 3 star hotel. Poor breakfst buffet. You will get better value by going outside. Around the block is an IBIS which would be a much better proposition. In a local entertainment area and Friday night particularly noisey!
