“Great hotel, lots of character”

A friend and I enjoyed a fantastic stay at the Abbaye de Maizieres in Beaune. It was a charming little hotel with lots of character. Our room appeared to have been recently renovated and was very clean. The location of the hotel was great and it was just a short walk to the main streets were there were lots restaurants and boutiques. The hotel staff were extremely courteous and knowledgable about the area. We were only supposed to stay two nights before heading to Dijon, but decided to stay an extra night at the Abbaye instead. I would definitely recommend the Abbaye de Maizieres to a friend and would stay there again if I ever return to Beaune. However, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone with limited mobility. There are a lot of stairs (which add to the charm of this 12th century building), but there is no elevator for people who may have difficulty with them.

“Small hotel - gem”

If you're looking for a big sterile chain hotel, this isn't for you. This hotel is full of character and charm and the staff were just brilliant. They were all very friendly and hospitable. The rooms are standard European sizes, clean, newly decorated and comfortable. The restaurant looks beautiful, but didn't eat in there so can't comment on the food. I loved my stay there and would recommend to anyone planning a trip to Beaune.

Area recommendations

Central Beaune is very small, with plenty of good restaurants, but it's not cheap!! However, I did not have one bad meal. This is a small town and I would say a full day is suffient with a night or 2 to experience the lovely restaurants. If you don't speak French, I would recommend taking a dictionary as English speaking staff are limited. The car hire was necessary for us, but is expensive. They sting you with the extra insurance at the airport, which was very annoying. I would also recommed GPS or a very detailed map as we got very lost.

“very pleasant”

This hotel has gotten a bad rap in other reivews. The only real negative is the stairway to upper floors, which is not unusual in older European hotels. The restaurant is very pleasant and the food is excellent.
