Somerville Torquay

Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: Quaint quirky wonderfully clean lovingly run great food.
Cons: Nothing stay as you are.
Location: Was told as soon as we arrived of the local attractions and given a map of the area by the proprietor to add to the splendour of the English Riviera.
A lovely guest house, close to all amenities, situated in a lovely spot. The gardens are beautiful and well loved just as the hotel is. We were pleasantly surprised by the extras that the proprietors give to this quaint and quirky establishment. The breakfast was first class. We would highly recommend and we will definitely return again and again.

Good hotel within walking distance of the harbour

Posted 07-May-2014
Pros: Position within the town
Cons: Furniture was very heavy and ornate so helped to make the rooms appear darker than they were.
Location: Within walking distance of the town, used the buses to go to Brixham and Painton.
Very good hotel room a bit dark but very clean, lovely bathroom. Only complaint the bed was too soft! Breakfast was excellent good selection and beautifully cooked.

This is the one to stay at in Torquay!

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Location: Good location near centre with Paignton zoo just minutes away by car. There are plenty of other places to visit all within a 30 min radius by car.
Fantastic b&b with top customer service by friendly staff. I cannot fault anything, we had a suite which was lovely with nice little touches. The breakfast was brilliant, easily the best I have had at a b&b. Fresh milk is available at any time & even a selection of cakes to help yourself to. To top it off it is in a good location just up from the harbour & town centre. I would definitely choose this b&b if returning to Torquay.

Best B&B in Torquay

I lived in Torquay for 30 years. Worked in loads of B&B's and my family owned quite a few too. This has got to be the best I've come across. A really pleasurable stay

Had a wonderful stay here. Very cozy, but comfortable rooms and beds and modern bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and free parking was a big plus.

Pros: Very clean. With very nice owners

We were greeted with a warm smile. Shown around the hotel by the owner. That was a very nice surprise.

Great staff great food

Stayed at the Sommerville for 5 nights recently. The hotel is rated as a five star. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and this is definitely more a guest house/B&B. as far as B&B's go it was great. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfasts were also fantastic. Better than any big hotel i had stayed in. However the rooms were fairly standard. A few little extras like sweets and fresh ground coffee in the rooms. But for a 5 star you expect this at the least. Personally the beds and pillows were too soft for mine and my partners preference but none the less very comfy and if you like soft then you would love it. All in all enjoyed the stay. Would recommend to a friend. Perhaps for a 5 star hotel you might expect more, however as this is really a big B&B, the service makes up for the lack of a pool/gym/baths in the bathrooms etc. and the bar prices are very reasonable.

I would like to thank the guest for the positive points they have made and we are delighted they enjoyed their stay. I am a little confused by some of the comments though. We are a 5 star B&B and are not a 5 star hotel so we don't have a gym or pool and certainly do not claim to have these. Our rates tend to reflect this and are certainly not those charged by a 5 star hotel. The guest booked a standard room. We have rooms to suit all budgets and have baths in our suites. We are always happy to discuss any requirements with guests at the point of booking. Pillows are a personal thing and we always have a variety on offer. A simple request would ensure that we could change these to suit. From memory the guest did ask for additional pillows and they had six on their bed.
