Nice hotel but...

Posted 26-May-2015
The hotel is very well located. The breakfast is superb. The staff is friendly. But... I could see that some rooms have been refurbished but a shame that the renovation was limited to a part of the hotel. Obviously the stairs carpet would need to be changed, mattresses in rooms to be changed... The hotel has a huge potential and needs someone to take care of it.

old building, fantastic staff

Posted 23-May-2015
My three colleagues and I were working on an event at the Riviera Centre (right next door), so the location couldn't have been better for us. The building is a typical old hotel, with an illogical layout and random stairs - but I rather like that. The room itself was not new but was very clean. The staff were very friendly and efficient: when we checked in we discovered that breakfast times were 0800-0930, no good for us since we had to be at work at 0730. The receptionist offered to arrange breakfast at 0700, just for us. When I asked on the second evening for an early breakfast the next day as well, I discovered it was already arranged - that's great. Some money needs to be spent on the fabric of the hotel, but a better use would be a pay rise for the staff: they deserve it.

Good value. Good location.

Posted 20-May-2015
Pros: Swimming pool (indoor). Fruit at breakfast. Friendly staff.
Cons: Reception area tired looking.
Location: Torbay has lots of attractions, beautiful coast for walking. Best bargain is the boat to Brixham. Torquay Museum is fascinating.
Very good for a bargain break. Enjoyed having having good breakfast included and the indoor swimming pool - it was a cold May mid-week break but great time away and the staff were welcoming and friendly.

Nice hotel close to the beach

Posted 17-Apr-2015
Pros: Very convenient for the beach and harbour. Friendly staff.
Cons: The decor was in need of refreshing in places. eg mould growing on the window frame on the window in the dining where we had breakfast.
Location: Near to all the facilities a holiday maker might need.
We stayed one night and found the reception staff very helpful. We were able to park easily. The room was very good value for money. An excellent breakfast with plenty of variety.

Victorian Hotel in need of revamp

Posted 14-Apr-2015
A last minute booking but wanted value for money and pleasant surroundings, disappointed by both. Hotel requires a major overhaul, very dated and shabby. However the Staff were lovely.

Good central location with pleasant views

Had a friendly welcome at reception. Renovation and refurbishment in progress did not affect stay. Bed comfortable and bathroom clean with good shower and hot water. Short stay met my need and enjoyed the break.

Good location and staff, but needs an update.

Posted 06-Apr-2015
Pros: Good location and staff. Good food and enjoyable and varied menu, although not enough vegetables.
Cons: The décor is very dated and the decoration needs freshening up.
Location: Near the railway station, Torre Abbey and the Riviera Centre and within walking distance of the centre of Torquay and Living Coasts attraction.
We found the hotel was in an ideal location for arriving and departing by train and conveniently within walking distance of the centre of Torquay and on bus routes for exploring further afield. Our double room was a little cramped and could have been more conveniently furnished to make it more comfortable. It was also very warm even if the radiator was not hot. The food in the restaurant was good and nicely presented but the service on two out of four evenings was exceedingly slow.
