A GREAT HOTEL

Posted 11-Nov-2014
Pros: ample parking which is reassuring
Cons: the hotel is being renovated but it cannot go all out or it would have no choice but to close during worktime
Location: a stones throw from the seafront. and a gentle walk to the town centre lots of places to pop into all a short distance from the grosvenor hotel
the staff were amazing. the hotel is undergoing renovations so a little manouvering around a busy foyer etc is understandable. the main restaurant food was an absolute delight 5 star. keiths American food bar was totally American, waist blowing. and my grandchildren loved it. in all we would recommend this hotel to all travellers the breakfast choice is amazing, and eaten most heartily. so again if the hotel has rooms available BOOK

Reasonably priced hotel near facilities,.

Posted 08-Oct-2014
Pros: The way in which the staff responded to any request . Any (minor) problem was immediately dealt with in a very pleasant way- all staff were helpful
Cons: New beds to replace old. Wider choice of cereals and fruit at breakfast. Adequate supplies of croissants and breakfast options. Installation of lifts.
Location: Handy for beach, buses Torquay Harbour, other restaurants , Big Wheel -and road to Paignton
We enjoyed our 3 night stay and swim in the pool. When a steak wasn't cooked to satifaction the matter was dealt with in a professional manner, every thing else was excellent.

Very poor hotel

Posted 30-Aug-2014
Pros: Very little or nothing apart from leaving
Cons: See above. I am sorry to say that there are many areas where there is an urgent need for improvement
Location: Torquay is very pleasant with lots to do, including things for kids and old alike.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The plumbing is, by their own admission, not up to standard and there are various other problems, including a sauna that is never switched on, a rusting jacuzzi, lots of traffic noise, old and dated bedrooms, mediocre breakfast, lack of car parking spaces. The list is endless and it is little wonder, therefore, that it was selected for a TV programme on 'sub standard' hotels. There has since been a change in ownership but, judging by our experience, little has changed in practical terms.

disappointing summer stay

Posted 06-Aug-2014 on Hotels.com
our overall stay was hugely disappointing. Car parking was limited, carpets in the hallways are faded and need changing, the walls on the stairs have plaster falling off and the decor in general needs attention. Our room only had two sets of towels, cups and glasses even though we booked it for three people and even after asking for extra it never arrived, the shower rail was loose and could not keep a constant temp. On the positive side the food and location were good.

Good location, Friendly staff, hotel poor

Posted 31-Jul-2014 on Hotels.com
The staff were friendly and helpful during our stay. The room itself was a good size and well furnished although could do with a little tlc. The bathroom was still in the 70's era, but was clean. The hotel is still in a poor condition. I understood it was being updated - the front has been painted, but not the sides or rear, which has paint peeling. Be careful not to trip on the stairs - there are stairlifts with the metal runner actually on the ground in front on the stairs. Breakfast was poor, however the Sunday carvery was delicious. Bar service a bit hit and miss, you generally have to go to reception to ask for service during quiet periods. Cocktail menu consisted of 4 cocktails, and 1 of these was unavailable when asked. To top it all off, the car was bumped in the car park, so a costly stay!
