Very helpful staff

Posted 08-Dec-2014
We had a lovely overnight stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They looked after my luggage after I had checked out, so that I could wander around Exeter centre. The room was clean and quiet. There was a very good choice for breakfast and my full English was delicious.

Exeter Escape

we found our stay in the citygate hotel very enjoyable.the bedrooms were clean, tidy well laid out and very comfortable, and the food was top notch. there was a beer garden and conservatory to the rear of the building worth a look on its own. while there is no parking in the hotel, there is a secure car park across the road. with its location handy to the town centre most things were easily reached. staff were very pleasant and helpful , and given half a chance I would go back. built circa 1851 it is not immaculately shiny, so won't be everyone's cup of tea, but for character and warmth of service, it is worth considering

A pleasant surprise

Posted 18-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
When I arrived quite late in the day, the hotel staff informed me that they'd just been about to call to see if I needed any help locating them. I didn't, but thought that was a nice gesture. Even though my room was just over the bar, it was very quiet and I had no trouble getting to sleep. The hallways look pretty nondescript, but the room was made up nicely--all the furniture was real, solid wood, the duvet was fluffy, and the toiletries were posh (and eco-friendly!). Overall, it was a pleasant stay and I was happy that the hotel exceeded my expectations based on the average 3-star reviews I'd seen online.

no parking but I still return.

Posted 06-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
This is the 3rd time I've stayed here on business. Although there's no parking, (pay and display on a side street before 6pm then carry suitcase across Exeter) I still choose this hotel over others with free parking anyday. The garden is lovely with its own pond and tortoise! Great food and nice rooms. Breakfast served nice and early too.

Great location

Posted 30-Sep-2014
Pros: Great helpful staff, large comfortable clean rooms, good food and service.
Location: Very central to the centre of Exeter but also close to the train station. Convenient.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I was only in town for one night and needed a handy reliable place to rest myself. The locale was warm and the beer and food allowed me to enjoy all of my meals in Exeter at the Hotel.
