Quaint hotel in the middle of nowhere

Posted 26-May-2015
Pros: The quaintness and although in the middle of the countryside only a few minutes ride from Exeter. A bit like stepping back in time!
Cons: The showers could be upgraded - only a trickle of water to wash in!
Location: Location is wonderful and peaceful but still in close proximity for Exeter and many other surrounding villages. Attended fete with brass band!
Wonderful break in the peaceful countryside with lovely food in the restaurant.

You will enjoy the food

A charming thatched roof and right next to a small church started in the thirteenth century, but the chef is an artist worthy of a larger hotel. The cuisine will be your memory to take away.

Charming!

Barton Cross is charming. It is in a lovely area of Devon down a hedge filled road. We were happy to find it and happy with our two day stay there.

Quiet location not far from Exeter

Posted 08-Sep-2014 on Hotels
My colleague and I stayed for two night, my room was a double, his a single. The hotel was quaint, with very friendly staff. Food was excellent. The decor is dated, and very floral, but thats a personal preference issue. The bed was a little hard, however the room was a good size. The shower was ok, but again, dated equipment, so don't expect a wake up power shower. Over all though, the stay was enjoyable, and I would consider going back. Main observation would be to avoid Room 5, as this is above the kitchen, and you can hear what is going on, along with the radio, so if you want an early night, it's not ideal.

Wonderful old worked listed building from early 16th century - off the beaten path on very small winding and unlit roads - worth the trip

Excellent Food and Service

Short notice business trip and i prefer to stay off the beaten track with the typical chain hotels. This was a great choice , nice large room , peaceful with good wifi , easy parking and the food was excellent !
