excellent stop over

Posted 13-Dec-2014
Pros: relaxed feel, helpful staff and excellent stop-over facilities.
Cons: the sofa bed in the family room would maybe have been better as a bunk bed (or two twin beds) as 10yr old and 8 yr old struggled in same bed.
Location: good pub nearby with great food but unfortunately VERY busy so had long wait for a table. Not much else in walking distance.
great experience...one night stop-over with 2 kids. Worked well with pizza ordered for the evening and drinks at the bar. Relaxed feel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great value breakfast and lovely room. Thanks you ..would definitely recommend.

One night, a Saturday in December 2014.

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: Everything really.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: It's also brilliantly convenient as it is just off the M5. It suited us coming from Gloucestershire perfectly.
This hotel was perfect for our one night stay. We found the staff to be extremely helpful. The breakfast (included) was absolutely brilliant. We discovered that the hotel had been refurbished in 2007, though we felt it might have been this year. Bedrooms are fine, with an ingeniously thought out bathroom. Large TV. Free WiFi. The bedroom was superbly clean (and I am a perfectionist, I'm told!). We were very impressed. Because one of us now has a temporary walking problem, I see we could/should have asked for a ground floor room. We hope to return in April when we have a birthday lunch party near Exeter, and will remember this. A member of reception staff volunteered to wheel our case to the car. Absolutely no complaints. Just praise. (The on-line price was brilliant too)..

Find elsewhere if possible

Posted 26-Nov-2014
Cons: Have a competition for local restaurants to tender for their brochures to be given out to guests at the hotel. It could be fun!!
Location: Exeter is nearby. I hear their cathedral is amazing.
Stayed here in October with my mother and 3 children in 2 adjoining rooms. Were exhausted after a long drive, and the room was fine really. My BIG ADVICE to them would be to find a GOOD local food supplier. The front desk gave us brochures (stacked in the cupboard) of two local takeaways. THE CHINESE WAS THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD and I wondered why one of the managers hadn't taken it upon themselves to source good, tasty local fare for exhausted travellers who come through their doors. Given that there were at least 200 brochures in the cupboard it would be fair to say that they get these kind of requests for food often, especially from travellers who don't want to "go across the carpark to the pub." These days food is a major expectation from travellers. we had been travelling for two weeks, with three more weeks to go. The Chinese was awful and given that the place was recommended by the hotel I was surprised. Holiday Inn usually has high standards. I wondered why they hadn't applied this to the 'evening experience' of their guests. Please, please think about it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review following your recent stay in Exeter. I am pleased to read that we could accommodate you and your family following your long drive. Thank you also for your comments regarding the take away menu options. As we only provide snacks within our hotel we try and have as many options for meals for our guests, we provide take away menus to be delivered to our hotel, we have plenty of different companies that provide this service and we will only keep hold of the menus that have had great feedback from our guests. I appreciate the time taken to share your review Kind Regards Natalie Clay Deputy General Manager

Nice Hotel

Posted 23-Nov-2014
Pros: Free car park free internet and nice free breakfast, and on top of all ( friendly staff )
Cons: I found it annoying to check in 3PM and check out next day 12 PM even though I didn't check in till late.
Location: We didn't realy have enough time to look around.
We went to Exeter to do an IELTs Exam my wife and I so we had to take our 5 children with us, I found the Hotel before we moved from Portsmouth and asked them for a connecting Rooms and they nicely confirmed it for me.

Friendly Staff - Great Hotel

Posted 18-Nov-2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: Bigger beds
Visiting family in the area with my seven year old son. We were able to use their plates etc in the evening when we ordered a takeaway. Each morning the reception staff acknowledged us as we walked to the breakfast area. There was plenty of parking spaces in the car park. Everyone worked really hard, especially the breakfast staff, my son could not believe how quickly our plates were cleared away. Will stay there again.

There on business

Posted 09-Nov-2014
Pros: Nearness to the office
Cons: Breakfast quality, it's ok but not good
Location: Too far out for Exeter itself but if you just want somewhere to crash it's ideal. The Barn Owl does very good food.
It does what it's supposed to do, it's clean and reasonably comfortable in a basic sort of way. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Easily accessible stop off

Posted 05-Nov-2014
Pros: Convenient location
Location: we used it to be close to our destination the following morning
Very close to M5 J29 with plenty of parking available both when we arrived about 2pm, and much later on. Pub across car park does excellent food and Doombar and Tribute draught ales.Rooms were quite compact, pull out bed was just about ok for two youngsters 6 and 8, but only just. Breakfast was good enough, limited selection (beans, eggs and sausages in the hot domes) bread and pastries, yoghurt and cereals, but something there for most.
