Note lack of private facilities.

Posted 04-Jun-2014
Pros: Not much except for the breakfast.
Cons: More rails and hooks in the shared bathroom for hanging towels and clothes. More frequent checks for provision of toilet paper and shower gels.
Location: Nothing within walking distance except its own garden.
Easily overlooked the non availability of private bathroom when booking. The whole cottage and its fittings are very tired. The breakfast was good, especially poached eggs.

Nice stay in a country setting

Posted 18-May-2014
Pros: The country setting and the charm of the grand double story building
Cons: For us, the bedding was far too soft
Location: Not too much to do nearby but drive elsewhere.
The biggest difficulty was finding the place. Had to stop in the town and enquire. It appears their B&B sign was away being repaired .It is a grand place on a country road but no noise. Some distance from Exeter but there is a very nice Inn a few miles away for evening dinner.

So Welcome

Posted 12-Mar-2014 on Hotels.com
The owners have been careful and successful in retaining the character of this wonderful old Victorian country house with its d├ęcor and furnishing. That, coupled with their welcoming and helpful approach to their guests make you feel immediately at home. We had a massive room for the night which was very comfortable with a lovely king-sized bed . Extremely grateful for the kindness and sense of humour of our hosts when we were delayed and didn't arrive until midnight and for the advice regarding the best route for our following day's trip. Homemade yoghourt on the breakfast table - delicious! Would definitely go there again if we are in the area. Just sorry we couldn't stay a bit longer this time

Handy location not too far from Exeter

Posted 20-Oct-2013
Pros: Friendly welcome. And good breakfast and clean room
Comfortable, good breakfast, spacious rooms and the minute fridge was a great idea. In rural setting about 15 mins to Exeter on a quiet Saturday morning. Maybe longer in peak hour.. Only pub nearby was community run and had friendly atmosphere. The food was average pub food

Like staying at your Auntie's!

Posted 01-Oct-2013 on Hotels.com
We loved it at Culm Vale. It was a bit eccentric, and if you want a small, magnolia room with modern furniture then this is certainly not for you. However, if you like spacious, historic, comfortable and fun, Culm Vale could be for you. The service was friendly and personal, and the house is well located for getting to Exeter. In summary, it was exactly what we wanted and we will be back!

Country & city unite

Posted 21-Jul-2013
Pros: It's character and charm
Cons: Finding it
Location: Hard to find for out of towers
Lovely people who own & run the guest house. Very helpful with anything you need from recommendations on where & what to see to directions on how to find them. Thoroughly recommend it to everyone. It was a delightful country experience yet only minutes from the centre of town.

Having stayed many times over the past 40 years near and around Silverton I think Culm vale is the best value I have had.
