Lovely hotel! Surroundings and hotel itself are stunning. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Very dog friendly. The only downside is that food could be better especially breakfast!

We found the Bovee castle hotel, and surrounding grounds absolutely delightful! The staff were friendly and attentive, and there was an error of elegance through most of the facility. We were far less impressed however with the available dining in the bistro. While the staff were still friendly, the food was uninspiring bordering on mediocre. This restaurant lacked any of the field of elegance. The characterized the rest of the hotel and almost seemed not to fit. There's a second, far more elegant dining room, but that facility was not open, so we can't speak to it.

It is quite rare to be met with so much enthusiasm and friendliness from each and every member of staff during our stay. The hotel is in a lovely settling and oozes atmosphere and luxury. We particularly loved the pool where we could relax undisturbed. We had dinner in both restaurants and enjoyed the food (and service) very much. All in all, every single aspect of our stay is rated 5 star; a superb experience!

Our recent experience with Bovey Castle was deeply disappointing. We had our reservation cancelled abruptly because we were bringing our cat, despite having no such issues in the past. The Deputy General Manager's handling of the situation lacked any personal communication or courtesy, leaving us feeling utterly disregarded as guests. This incident raises serious concerns about the hotel's customer service. As a result, l urge fellow cat lovers and pet owners to reconsider patronizing this hotel. It's crucial to support establishments that value all their guests, including those with furry companions.

Emanuele, this is not strictly true is it?In February 2023 you came to stay without advising about your pet; feline or otherwise. You simply arrived with your cat. We allowed the stay to go ahead as a gesture of goodwill but you were told, on departure, that you would NOT be allowed to bring him/her again. For February 2024 you booked via our website and indicated you were bringing a dog. Only when we asked for breed/age and name did you admit it was your cat. You were advised again, that your cat would not be allowed in the hotel and were offered free amendment or cancellation - you asked US to cancel your stay.

Fabulous Stay
It is a wonderful place and so relaxing and the energy is wonderful. All the staff are so lovely and helpful making the stay even better. The food and the room were fantastic.

Wonderful
The staff - every one of them - were unbelievably friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We’ve stayed at Bovey before so know how breathtaking, beautiful and serene it is -oozing with charm and class. But it is the staff who make stays memorable, The receptionists, waiting staff - everyone contributed hugely to an enjoyable stay. The food was good and despite almost continuous rain - we throughly enjoyed our stay,

Another lovely stay at Bovey
There is plenty of space to relax at Bovey, from numerous lounges, seating areas, a bar, two terraces, and two restaurants. There is a lovely spa and a large swimming pool with a jacuzzi one end and a sauna. All staff were happy and polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had no long wait times for our food (we ate in both restaurants) and waiters regularly attended the terrace areas to take drink/food orders, though you can order directly from the bar if you wish. We have stayed at Bovey several times and enjoyed each occasion and will be returning.

Beautiful setting in a lovely building. However for a 5 star hotel the room/bathroom fittings were not in tip top condition. The restaurant service was good but not excellent- we seemed to be being served by more than one waiter and asked for our order after it had already been taken. Food was good but steak slightly overcooked- hence only 4/5

A beautiful manor house with wonderful ambience and facilities. The option to make your stay as relaxing or as active as you prefer. All options are catered for. The staff are very attentive and courteous, nothing was too much bother. Would recommend Bovey Castle for those wanting to enjoy a very welcome escape and to explore the nearby areas.

Restaurant and staff were excellent. Rooms were mediocre - tv barely worked, little to no hot water, drains worked slowly. Tho was supposed to be a premium room too. Way too expensive for the poor quality.

Disappointing
Booked 2 rooms for an overnight stay to celebrate a friends 60th. One room was so hot all the windows had to be opened and the other was too cold. No way of controlling room temp is not what one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Our bathroom shower was tepid and the bathroom freezing cold. The carpet in our bedroom, below the window, was not fitted correctly with the griprod exposed. As a result of this my wife received a minor cut to her toe whilst closing the curtains to retain more heat in the room. When we checked in I thought that the receptionist had either a very important meeting to attend or needed the toilet urgently, due to the fact that hotel information was rattled off so quick it made my head spin. You cannot order drinks at the bar they are all served at your table plus a £6.95 service charge every time, nothing explained about this. Also a discretionary service charge of £10.00 per day, again not explained, but just added to the bill making you feel obliged to pay it and too embarrassed to refuse it. The room was also above hotel entrance and from the early hours doors could be heard opening and closing making for a very disturbed sleep . When checking out and mentioning the poor shower and my wife cutting her toe due to the badly fitted carpet I felt that the apology was very poor and insincere. On the positive side the spa and pool were nice and the food in the Brasserie was exceptional. So on checking in check your room first.

Mixed feelings. Parts of the hotel experience live up the 5* ranking others didn’t. The restaurant was amazing; food and service superb and generally the staff and standards were great, not necessarily exceptional though. Our bedroom, whilst serviced, wasn’t resupplied and fruit left overs remained for the entirety of our stay. Checking out. Our bill was in error by several hundred £ with double billing and simple errors. Over £150 of service fees had been added for one evening meal and drinks on two occasions in the bar…

Make no mistakes this was one of the nicest hotels I've been to and a beautiful location. I will be back to enjoy the area, activities and the meals. Slightly let down by the time it took to order and get the breakfast which for £25 each was a shame. Otherwise a not to miss place to stay.

Great value stay
Great value stay at Bovey Castle. Good sized room, clean and comfortable. Some parts of the hotel are tired, others are amazing. Service was hit and miss. Location was stunning. Activities on site were a pleasant surprise. Overall a superb stay and would highly recommend.

The hotel was magnificent and the grounds were beautiful, peaceful and very well maintained. The decor and ambience and interior design were all stunningly grand with the spectacular backdrop of Dartmoor to gaze upon whilst taking coffee. The staff were efficient and some were excellent but there were a number that were unfriendly and surly to the point of being almost rude. This became highly entertaining to us as we never quite knew what interaction we could get. Definitely recommend and we will return!
