“Great Torquay Hotel”
Our stay in the Gleneagles Hotel was very pleasant. The hotel managers and staff were friendly and extremely helpful. There was a modern comfortable bar and restaurant with a good ambience and great view, which easily catered to our rather odd mealtimes. We enjoyed the hotel location; a short walk from Kents Cavern, Ansteys Cove and Redgate Beach and with good access to the South West coastal path. It's also convenient for the shopping and restaurants of the Strand. While our fairly small room felt a little cramped, it was comfortable and we enjoyed having a balcony. And the hotel was also very accomodating about allowing our dog to stay for a small extra charge. Overall we felt this was a very good hotel which left us with with an excellent impression of Torquay and we will definitely go back.
“Breakfast could be better”
Nice hotel and very good staff / service. Only criticism is the breakfast. Plenty of choice and ample amount to fill you up but its let down by the quality of the food used and on some days the cooking. Not very nice sausages and bacon could do with a bit longer in the pan. Would also have been nice to to help yourself to coffee.
“Little used path”
Brilliant walks along public footpaths to small cove , cliff tops and over downs accessed via fairly hidden path from hotel garden. Views from balconies to rear of hotel superb.
“OK for the price”
This was a one night stay for business at a budget price - and unlike some budget hotels this was a good one. Certainly a friendly and hepful staff and clean, presentable surroundings. The rooms were small but so was the budget so no complaints there! And the evening meal - excellent. I would go back for the food!
“Can't wait to go back”
Superb decor with fantastic use of mirrors, soft furnishings and plate glass. Delighted to find such a sophisticated hotel in Torquay.
“Would do alright without breakfast”
The Hotel is fine but getting through with breakfast was kind of a mission: 1)cutlery was quite dirty and greasy looking, 2) an honest apology from the waiter would have been more appreciated than an obvious lie when after waiting for over 40 minutes for scrambled eggs and seeing other guests being served after a 5 minute wait he took us for a ride by saying that the hotel only uses fresh ingredients. Not ending there, after another 10 minutes, we stood up and left to our room when then the waiter called us apologizing by saying that the scramble eggs set the hotel's alarm off!!! and finally 3)if you would like a hot cup of coffee, help yourself with the kettle supplied in the room because the one they serve in the dining room is far from acceptable.
