“Detroit doesn't deserve a hotel like this”

Comfortable bed, large room, clean facilities. The neighborhood around is a bit run-down, like the rest of Detroit, but you wouldn't know it staying in this hotel.

“Very Nice”

Very good proximity to the Detroit Jazz Festival in Hart Plaza. Experienced a couple of small problems 1) one day, the maid service did not leave washcloths; 2) the concierge did not have updated Jazz festival schedules available on another day. Both issues were easily mitigated.

“Luxury in Downtown Detroit”

Wow, this is one nice hotel. Our family loved our stay, the pool and hot tub were very nice and well maintained. The room was a good size and the bathroom was one of the largest I've seen. Top notch all around!

Area recommendations

Downtown Ferndale is a lovely walkable retail area. The Eastern Market has a great restaurant for crazy good pizza.

“Great choice for Downtown Detroit”

The hotel is an impressive landmark in downtown Detroit. Staff was courteous and helpful -- even the poor doormen out front during a particularly cold and windy day. Room design and cleanliness exceeded expectations and was very comfortable. The in-hotel bar off the lobby was inviting and lively with great selection of drinks and delicious desserts.

Greek Town has great restaurants.

“Best you are going to get in rundown downtown Detroit”

Stayed for weekend and have often stayed at Westin hotels before. The hotel itself is good, however the area surrounding it is desolate. There are no close by resturants (other than the expensive ones attached to hotel) as most of the buildings around the hotel are closed and empty. Staff were not too knowledgeable either about surrounding area either (one valet did not know where the People Mover Station was, which was one block away). Housekeeping did not get to room until almost 3:00 pm which is longer than I would have expected. Also, they charge for in-room internet, which is normal, however they also charge to use the business center. Fortuantely we had 4G on phone, but that didnt help us out when we wanted to print anything out. overall, good hotel, some compaints, but surrounding area is deplorable and and a reminder of hard times. Lots of closed business. first time to Detroit and will be last I'm sure.

“Very good for Detroit”

This is easily the nicest hotel in Detroit, though the customer service varied wildly. The front desk and concierge staff were wonderful, but the bar service was inattentive. Most disappointingly, the "Service Express attendant" (what Westin calls the hotel operator) seemed so apathetic when I called for a wake-up call (she just said "OK" and immediately hung up on me when I politely requested a time) that I was actually a bit surprised when the wake-up call actually came (though it was not on time; it was five minutes late). Otherwise it was a satisfying stay.

Dining

The legendary hot dog restaurants Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island are right across the street from the side entrance, and are well worth experiencing for a cheap and tasty lunch.

“The best service & best staff”

All of the staff of this hotel are very nice and kind. Room is clean and comfortable. I definitely stay this hotel, if I go to Detroit again.

“excellent experience”

the surrounding area is kind of sketchy to most so its not a hotel where you can take a walk around so drove to the upscale mall with shopping about 20 minutes away. luxury rooms, great bed, awesome service. parking in the adjacent garage was a painful alternative to 25 dollar per night valet parking. otherwise no complaints whatsoever. would definitely stay there again

“Awesome weekend trip!”

Awesome staff!! Everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were more than we expected! A short walk to the people mover and MGM casino. We will stay there again for sure.
