“Great downtown hotel”

would recommend to those wanting to stay downtown. Within walking distance of Joe Louis Arena and other attractions. There is only valet parking but worth the money, they were very fast.

“Beautiful Hotel in Detroit”

This hotel is a nice value for its amenities and cleanliness. Its conveniently located around the block from the people mover to take you to the main attractions in downtown Detroit. The downside is there's lots of extra fees not included in the price of your stay that can add up quickly. For example, $20 to park and $30 to use the in-room safe. Right there is an extra $50 to add to whatever you are able to snag the room for. We stayed in a King Suite which was great to have separation from your bed and lounge area. It was a nice place to relax before we headed out to dinner, the red wings game and the casino.

“Really impressed with the quality of the hotel”

Normally we stay at the other upscale hotels in downtown detroit and chose this one as the remaining hotels were sold out. We were quite please with the service and the rooms were a pleasant surprise considering the price was modest. Great bargain without feeling cheap.

“Nice Friendly Place”

Very Nice Clean Hotel The Hotel's dining was great. The front desk was very helpful and the cookies are always frexh.

“Pleasant place to stay”

The room was nice but it had no view...that was o.k. though because once I actually returned to my room all I wanted was a shower and sleep...so it worked out perfectly...so be specific when booking and ask for a room with a view unless you want to be facing a brick wall.

“Large well maintained room”

This hotel was new and very well kept. The rooms were clean and spacious. Our suite included a living room with a nice flat screen tv and a separate sleeping area with nice comfy beds. The hotel is located conveniently to downtown Detroit near Comerica Park and the hotel staff were gracious enough to shuttle us to and from our destination (we asked them to call a cab and they just brought us there instead). I'd stay again.

“Would stay again but wished it was better”

The negative things about the hotel: 1. there was a used contact lens on the floor of my bathroom; 2. the "care" line for costumer service never answered and in general the hotel staff did not seem to get how to provide service in a luxury hotel

“Nice Hotel!”

The Double Tree was great. Nice clean room & friendly staff. Had the 2 room queen suite which was perfect. It has a sitting room w/couch & chairs, sink & mirror area, bathroom & shower, and a bedroom w/a door. Close to the People Mover station which was handy when it was raining outside. Would recommend the Anchor Bar around the corner which was a bit old, but had great prices on cocktails! Detroit is an awesome sports town! Had a blast at the Tiger game, enjoyed Greektown, and love all the Detoit sports bars! They treated us well on game day!

Area recommendations

I would recommend area close to Comerica/Ford Field & Greektown. Safe areas with plenty of restaurants & bars.

Getting around

The People Mover isn't popular, but it's cheap (50 cents a ride) and handy from time to time. We used it to get around when it was raining and when it was dark since we didn't know all the areas of the city.

Must see

Don't miss Comerica. Very under-rated baseball stadium. The Tigers outside are so cool. The stadium has great detail in it which should be appreciated.

Dining

Slow's barbecue was great! Take a cab there & have the restaurant call one to take you back, but the food was tremendous. Little bit of a wait, but worth it.
