We had a wonderful holiday at this hotel.
It sits beautifully at the beach with extensive gardens and grassy areas with lots of sunbeds and parasols - no fighting for a bed here at any time of the day.
The restaurants are many and varied and the quality of food is exceptional in each one.
The staff are most helpful and attentive.
The 'all inclusive' option is very extensive.
Rooms are serviced well and the level of cleanliness throughout the hotel is high.

My wife and I met our son here who flew in from Muscat. The hotel kindly placed us in rooms next to each other. The room was vast (end of block 401) with all the trimmings you need when on holiday. The room was clean cool with the AC, with a balcony overlooking the creek and the mosque. The hotel was not busy as full high season is not for a few months but there was a full compliment of staff to attend to you. We used the pool facilities and despite the temperature reaching 40 the pol cooled us down and we had a small cool box of water topped up regularly throughout the day. The staff came around regularly with a fruit kebab and a fresh fruit juice or tea in the afternoon. We ate at Bord Eau which was wonderful and when you compare prices with other hotels fairly reasonable, but the food was exquisite. We used the "brunch" buffet where everything was so fresh and plentiful you wanted to try all the dishes! We also had a brunner on Friday at Pearls and Caviar which was very good with a good selection of seafood and good wine. For the other days in the week we tried other restaurants in other hotels which were also very good but on comparing the hotels themselves nothing came close to the Shangi-la, its positioning away from the city and downtown area and its cooling breeze off the creek. It has so much going for it with the souk attached to the side where there are a good few quality restaurants, a Starbucks for your morning caffeine fix...

The hotel is most enjoyable yet quite expansive in terms of the value for the price. It's a relatively old structure that has been renovated over the years multiple times (most recently in 4/2014) but the overall size of each guest room cannot be stretched. The standard and deluxe rooms are quite tight. The bathroom facilities are very convenient, although the sink area is quite small.
The LED lights all over the room, especially on the bathroom is terrible. No ability to keep a small low light in the bathroom. The light is harsh. Also by the bed sides. The only half decent one was the desk lamp.
The location is excellent, the Israeli breakfast is very good and recommended. The pool area and access to the sea are very good. The decor is pleasing including the corridors to the rooms. All the shops are Very expansive.

The hotel is on the main north-south street along the Tel Aviv seaside, near the marina. Not a luxury neighborhood, but it felt quite safe to walk around at night. Comfortable room. There is a small bar area on the ground level next to sliding doors leading out to the pool (which we didn't use due to the weather). We had booked the room without included breakfast. On check-in we were given the option to have breakfast for an additional $15/person, but with no charge if we chose to go elsewhere. We tried the buffet breakfast the first morning and were totally overwhelmed with the variety and quality of the food. Even a "chef" to prepare omelets to order. We went back each morning we stayed there and it was well worth the cost. But it was nice to have the option to go elsewhere if we had wanted to.
